Quid Pro 'No'
-INTRO
This is the story of the player who just couldn't be helped. The moral is:
"You can only help those who know how to be helped, but don't let that stop you from trying."
As a level 34 Cleric/30 I was attempting to solo destroy my guild base's crystal when someone asked in world chat:
"Is anyone interested in going to Morticora with a 29 hunter and a 27 thief."
I decide we can benefit each other as I am only at half way done the HP on this crystal and it's going slow as molasses. Figuring I can ask him if he will come lend aid at killing this crystal then I will in turn come heal him for his dungeon.
-LET'S HELP EACH OTHER
I send him a tell:
"Heya, find anyone yet?"
He replies with:
"What level are you"
I respond:
"34"
1 minute goes by. I ask:
"You still there?"
Another minute goes and he replies:
"You a cleric?"
Again I answer his question even though he didn't answer mine:
"Yes"
I wait about 30 seconds to see if he will reply by now the crystal is at 1/3 HP left.
I say:
"Hey I was wondering if you wouldn't mind coming to help me kill my guild's crystal, then I would be glad to come along to the dungeon."
He replies:
"name?"
I answer, then he invites me to his team, I accept and immediately type into the team channel:
"Sorry the crystal is low now, but taking forever to go down."
The other team mate(Person B) says:
"np"
-MORE BREAD FOR ME
Then silence for a minute or so, then they both begin to discuss their battle plans. I assume that they are still coming and before I can type anything to ask I notice their health going down. I ask if they are coming to help me with the crystal, and the original person who asked for help in world chat(Guy A) says:
"we are inside the dungeon"
So I reply:
"Ok well I should only be another minute or two."
I kill the crystal and begin looting the treasure chests that spawn, and 'Guy A' says:
"wow thats a lot of treasure"
To which I reply:
"I tried to share it."
I continue looting, after looting the 20th or so Asbee Crystal 'Guy A' says:
"Can I have some of those Asbee Crystals"
I literally laugh out loud and reply:
"Sorry only those who help bake the bread can eat it."
Silence. I finish looting and let them know I am done and will be there as soon as possible.
-POOR LEADERSHIP
On route to the dungeon I explain that I had asked for help before hand, that I had no intention on making them wait for me to finish, and that I had hoped we could share the treasure as my initial idea. No replies from 'Guy A'.
I enter the dungeon and say:
"Ok I'm here, sec for buffs."
I buff up and within 15s of completing my buffs 'Person B' runs into battle. We two man(duo) the first group of enemies while 'Guy A' stands still. After the fight, I type:
"Look, I clearly told ((Guy A)) that I needed help with a crystal before I could come to the dungeon, and any confusion or delay was not my fault. It was the poor team management skills of ((Guy A)), who is now afk for the first fight."
'Person B' laughs and after about 45s 'Guy A' types:
"im talking to guild friends and you guys"
I argh in real life and reply:
"Talking? We are fighting. Ready?"
He replies:
"Yes"
'Person B'(our hunter) pulls the next closest group of bad guys and the fight begins. 'Guy A' (our thief) Proceeds to fan far left of the group we are engaged with and pulls a second group. We all die. I being typing:
"Ok this will work, but if we dont have a tank we will need to work together. Focus on one enemy, and we need to kill them as fast as possible. Make sure to attack the hunters target 'Guy A', and remember don't start the fight until my regen is on but make sure to attack right away to keep aggro."
However, just as I am about to hit enter 'Guy A' types:
"guys I am going to swap to my main, cya later"
I hit enter and put my message up and immediately type:
"Wow, thanks a lot for the time waste 'Guy A'."
He repeats his above statement:
"guys I am going to swap to my main, cya later"
I repeat mine:
"I know I said, wow, thanks a lot for the time waste 'Guy A."
'Person B' responds:
"Your swapping but not going to come help us?"
'Guy A' logs out.
-HAPPY ENDING
'Person B' says:
"Grrr, I'll hunt him down later"
I reply:
"Well I am not ditching, I think we could probably do it us two, or I could try and find a third, your call."
She replies:
"Yeah, lets try it us two"
We go forward and get wiped out(both killed) once on the way to the first boss. We kill the first boss no problems, then get wiped out(wipe) once more. We wipe 3 times at the last boss, trying to attempt different techniques. 'Person B' decides to try Thief rather then Hunter, and we complete it with the greatest of ease.
In the end we(me and 'Person B') both agree that we had a blast in the dungeon, and we played well together. We added each other to our friends lists and planned to do future dungeons with one another.
By the time it was all said and done, I had dungeon completion, half the dungeon loot(rather then 1/3), met a new friend, and enjoyed my play time.
All this more then made up for the negative experience I had with Guy A, and if my night was that good, I shudder to think what night Lady Karma gave him.
