Have Not Been Playing Much Lately...

If you take a close look at the date stamps on this message and the previous one, you can tell I have not been playing much MegaTen this past…well, year. This is certainly not because I do not like the game anymore and have found another MMO to play instead. There are some pretty significant reasons for my lack of play, though.

For one, my access to the Internet has been quite limited recently. I currently do not have access in my apartment, though this may change sometime soon. Even when I do have access, my friends will likely be reluctant to play with me, and MegaTen, as with many MMO games, is just not as fun when you play alone.

Another big reason for my hiatus and those of my friends I would typically play with is the experience point system. I was having trouble reaching level 30, and it seemed as though I was level 29 for ages and ages. Then a friend introduced me to the reason why. As it turns out, the way the levels are scaled makes each level ending with a 9 take a disproportionate amount of experience to level up. I have been told this is not something that is usually noticed until 29, when the discrepancy really begins to show. This is made more aggravating by the monsters you encounter. They either mop the floor with you easily or fall in a couple of hits. On top of this is the fact that I had reached the limit of how far I could advance in the story before becoming level 30, so experience from quests was (for the most part) out of the picture.

This past weekend I downloaded several podcasts and listened to them while playing Imagine. I stayed up until morning slaughtering Zhen until I finally reached level 30. Hopefully if I do not end up with too much homework to do and I can convince some of my friends to join me, we can have 9 more levels of fun together again. I am really hoping for this. MegaTen is a great game and I am a bit saddened that I have not had the chance to play it as much as I would like.
