Elfstruckīs Guide for Priests/Oracles

Builds, Stats, Gears, Skills and more

Prologue

There are many great guides for each class of Shaiya that inspired me to create this one (see the links below). Priests got wonderful guide written by GreenieEm, it contains bunch of useful informations and my guide isnīt meant to top that one, but to add more info as it is more recent. So please refer even to GreenieEmīs guide for tips.

Goal of this guide is to give you basic knowledge about Priest/Oracle class, it will iclued tips on builds, skills, gears and other things related. I decided to focus on the basics, cause many people donīt like to read too long texts and tend to skip it.
However you wonīt find info about grinding spots here, cause GreenieEmīs guide got that perfectly covered.

I play Shaiya for aproximately 1,5 years. My main toon is a priest 70UM and I have PvP experience from all three PvP zones.
I play on Teos AoL, unfortunately my highest Fury toon is NM oracle lvl 15, so I donīt have first-hand experience with Fury side.
However I try to keep this guide usable for both sides, as all info can be used both for priests and oracles, because there is basically no difference in builds, skills etc.

Joys of being a Priest/Oracle

What is good about Priests/Oracles?

  • You canīt do much in Shaiya without a priest/oracle, they are always wanted and needed.
  • Priest/Oracle is probably the only one that can be usefull no matter the mode, meaning that even NM can be handy.
  • They make grinding easier, are essential for Bosses and even most of the farming.
  • Priest is one of the most versitile classes in game, they can be healers, tanks or damage dealers.
  • They are also one of the fastest levelers, because color of mobs doesnt affect your heals, so you can join parties even as lower level.
  • They are smexy, nuf said

What is bad about Priests/Oracles?

  • Most of the times you depend on someone, either for grinding or killing (unless you are a nuker)
  • Some people tend to blame priests when they die, so you might get shout at. Especially if your party doesnt exactly know what they are doing, no one tanks, everyone starts to kill and expects you to heal all of them, most die and blame you...
  • As a tank/healer you ALWAYS rely on a killer, Im saying it again, because trust me it can be so frustrating, especially if your killer isnīt exactly as pro as he/she should be Razz
  • I cant think of more negatives, I love this class Very Happy

The Modes

Normal Mode= NM

  • Thanks to the Healing skill NMīs became usefull again
  • Also NMīs are very good if you wanna help out your guild during some events when low on healers, its not hard to level NM and they can still heal very well
  • On the other hard getting your first experience with game as a priest might not be the best, since you cant kill anything yourself and looking for a party or a duo at low levels where everyone is just starting the game might be difficult
  • You get 5 stat points and 3 skill points/ each lvl

Hard Mode= HM

  • Maybe you dont have EB or Self Heal, but you dont need to use res runes and can be almost as good as UM.
  • HM mode is good for occasional players or ppl who cannot dedicate too much of time to game.
  • If your built well you will enjoy it as much as UM.
  • You get 7 stat points and 4 skill points/ each lvl

Ultimate Mode= UM

  • Yay, you finally made it to the UM. You got Self heal and the better EB. But think about this mode carefully. Do you really have the funds to buy res runes for your UM? Is it really worth it for you to keep worrying if you didnt forget to pop a cont rune for pvp? Wouldnt you be happier playing HM and spend your gold on upgrading your gears? Are you sure? Alright...go on reading

  • First rule of being UM- Always carry a RESSURECTION RUNE in your inventory! Better carry two, each in seperate slot! Cause yes, even res runes can drop in PvP areas without a PID activated.

  • Being UM allows you to max out your potential, you can wear Goddess gears, get most points per level, more skills are available for you and get more reward for your pvp rank.
  • You get 9 stat points and 5 skill points/ each lvl

Builds and things related

Stats

REACTION (REC) - physical defense power, shooting defense power and HP increases
- for each 1 REC you add you get 1 def and 5 HP

WISDOM (WIS) - magic defense power, magic accuracy, and MP increase
- for each 1 WIS you add you get 1 resistance and 5 MP, every 5 WIS increases your magic attack power by 1
- Each point of resist reduces magic damage taken by 2.

INTELLIGENCE (INT) - magic attack power increases
- for each 1 INT you add you get 1,3 magic attack power

LUCK (LUC) - shooting attack power, critical hit rate, critical damage, critical evasion rate icrease slightly
- every 5 LUC adds 1% chance to critical hit
- every 20 LUC adds 1% chance to critical evasion

DEXTERITY (DEX) - physical, shooting power increase slightly. Its rate of evasion, success increase and so does SP
- for every 1 DEX you add you get 5 SP, also adds to dodging ability

STRENGTH (STR) - Adds to physical damage

The Builds

PvE Builds:

  • Full WIS - add all your points to Wis
    - for PvE, you donīt need Rec that much, if you and your party members do your job correctly, a mob shouldnīt even touch you.
    - you can also use this build if you donīt PvP
    - NMīs should always go full WIS

  • WIS/REC - The idea is to go full WIS till around lvl 30, by then you should have enough Wis to heal more than fine with Healing or Recovery if necessary and from there go full REC. That will give you decent defense for high lvlīs when You will want to grind in PvP maps.
    - HM/UM only

  • full REC - not really good idea to go full Rec from lvl 1, unless you have low lvl gears lapises with WIS, but still...useless for PvE, but if you plan on being full REC, once you lvlīd up, you will save on a stat reset.

  • full INT - this used to be viable solo build for grind, or to duo with a tank and work as a nuker. However episode 5 skills changed a lot. The only spammable AoE priests have is Elemental Shock and it consumes MP like crazy, so think twice what level you will choose, based on the MP costs. You can still solo but it will be slow and in party you will probably be more useful as a healer.

  • INT/LUC - some mobs have a high resistance towards LUC (such as the ones in Pando), so you will need to have at least 500 LUC and add the rest into INT.

Hint: If you wanna be a bpriest/borc, better lvl up as a healer and then restat.

PvP builds:

(These builds are meant for 1-70 PvP, but can give you a general idea on how the builds look like even for other zones)

Healer/Tank

  • Full REC - put all your points to REC
    - common PvP build, having the strongest heals isnt as important as staying alive to heal your party. There is no point in being able to heal for 10k if you will be one shotted in PvP and most of your time you will keep lead ressing or running back.
-Thanks to Healing You will heal for huge amount of HP even with only 100 Wis
    - You should get 1,8k def !minimally! to make this build work
-This build is also good for tanking bosses
    -HM/UM only

  • REC/WIS - idea behind this build is to have somewhat defense and high heals, You will still be relatively squishy though..
    - you need to get around 1500 def and add rest to WIS
    - With this build you will be able to survive few hits and your heals will be very high,
this is a good build for farming OI for example

  • full WIS - okay...wow awesome heals, eh youīre dead again? seriously now, stop feeding.
    - thanks to the 1 sec cast time for Healing, full WIS builds are able to finish casting the heal before they drop dead, however once the enemy figures out your an easy kill, he will keep killing you over and over and over again
    - I donīt recommend this build at all!

  • DEX/REC/WIS - WARNING this is not a common build! Please read with caution, as this build isnīt that much used in US Shaiya, would require lots of stat points and high rank to make it work. The idea behind this build is to get missed in PvP so your spells wouldnīt be interrupted. While having enough REC to surive when you actually do get hit. However you need at least twice as much DEX as the killer. I havenīt test this build yet, but I wanted to mention it to show you that the possibilities donīt end with traditional builds and its always nice to think out of the box.

Battle Priest/Battle Oracle

As a bpriest/borc you need to have lots of stat points to make the most out of your potential. The new ep5 gears are in your favor though, thanks to the base INT and LUC in them.

  • full INT - High attack, but your crits will be very random and you will be squishy

  • INT/LUC - High attack, great crits, but you will be soo squishy. As soon as the enemy founds out you are 1 hit, you will become the priority target.
    -500LUC/ rest INT

  • INT/LUC/REC - Finally you can max out 3 stats and get yourself more stat points.
    - 500LUC/ 500+ REC/ rest INT
    - 800+ REC/ rest INT- in this case you rely on crits only on your EB, and you sacrifise your attack for lots defense

Bpriests/borcs and ep5 changes:
few thoughts...

  • Thanks to the fact that Magic Spot got deleted, BPriests/Borcs are now weaker than Mages (which are already weak) in 1-15
  • You have no aoe for 1-15, except for Frozen ice, which has a cooldown and very short range...
  • You dont have health assistant, which makes you squishy in all pvp zones, unless you have tons of absorption in 1-15
  • Self-heal is somewhat weaker for bpriests, since they have low WIS, and it costs lots of SP, therefore be careful which skill level you choose
  • The only good AoE for 20-30 or 1-70 is Elemental Storm, which has huge MP costs, but at least is still strong
  • Frozen ice is a very good instant spell that doesnt need targeting, however it has a cooldown and doesnt debuff the enemy
  • Blizzard has a cooldown, and lost its functionality for bpriests and int priests alike

The Importance of DEF:

DEF reduces physical damage being dealt to you.

There are several ways how to get DEF. One is from REC, where each point in REC adds 1 point to DEF. Other way how to get def is from lapises- duals and Forbids.
Def works in a linear way, meaning the more def the more efficient it becomes. If you are level 15 and have 20 def and you add 30 more def through lapis, the difference is merely unnoticeable, cause the numbers are too small to make a difference. However having 1200 def and adding 30 def more makes a difference and in big numbers, every point in def is worth it.

Remember that aggro is drawned by REC, not your def.

DMG formula affected by Def:

for PvE: ((ATK * ELE) - DEF)* 1.5 + (LUC * rand # between 0 and 1.5)

for PvP: (((ATK - DEF) * ELE) * 1.5) + (LUC * rand # between 0 and 1.5)
*1.5 applies only when the hit is a crit
**the second bracket is commonly accepted LUC formula

Many people think there is a big difference if youre hit by ele 1 or 2, but honestly in PvP, its doesnīt matter that much. Especially if you have high PvP rank to boost up your defense. Lets do some math:

Fighter with 2000 atk power,400 LUC and ele 1 hits you max crit normal attack on your weak ele 1, while you have 1000 defense.
((((2000-1000)*1.4*1.5) + (luc x 1.5) max crit

2700 dmg taken

The same fighter, same stats with ele 2 now:

(((2000-1000)*1.6*1.5) + (luc x 1.5) max crit

3000 dmg taken

Now of course the results may vary depending on the base attack skill, however this was only an example to show you that the dmg difference between ele 1 and 2 isnīt that great as people seem to think it is.

Magic Resistance:

Resistance reduces taken damage from magical attacks

You can get resistance from WIS points, where each point in WIS adds 1 point to Resistance and each 1 resistance reduces magical dmg by 2. WIT lapises, which can be linked into helmets increase the resistance. Duals such as Dual Safe 3 increase resistance aswell.
Priests/Oracles have naturally high amount of magic resistance thanks to the fact that they automatically receive 1 WIS point each level. Episode 5 gears also add relatively huge amounts of resistance.

DMG formula affected by Res:

for PvE: (((ATK * ELE) - 2xRES) * 1.5) + (LUC * rand # between 0 and 1.5)
for PvP: (((ATK - 2xRES) * ELE) * 1.5) + (LUC * rand # between 0 and 1.5)

Damage Absorption:

Enchantement system was introduced with episode 4.
Each enchanted level on your armor provides you with 5 damage absorption. Your maximum level of enchantement is 20, which will give you 100 damage absorption.

It is important to understand how absorption works, cause its different than def. Absorption reduces the taken damage based on the enchantement level. It doesnt take into account what kind of damage it is, whether physical or magical.
Letīs say you have 100 absoprtion and were going to be hit for 500 damage, now you only receive 400 damage. Absorption is taken into account first, and then comes everything else aka your def, which reduces physical damage and resistance, which reduces magical damage, all based on the damage formulas.

Damage absorption is very important in 1-15 PvP zone.
Absorption is usefull also in PvE or for other than tank builds (in 20-30 and 1-70), where enchanting each piece of your gears to 5 is more than enough. However absorption is extremely useful for tank builds, where its recommended to link Absorption lapises.

Orange Stats:

Adding oranges stats is an important part of upgrading your gears. You can do so by using Recreation runes at the blacksmith in Auction House called Carax Abigail. Please note that quest items cannot be rerolled for orange stats! What you should aim for while rerolling is getting the highest HP as possible as HP plays a big part in survivability. The reroll numbers are totally random, meaning that you can get 2000HP in first try, but also on 200th. Therefore be smart while doing so. If you got 1400HP and 1000MP then keep it, unless you are uber rich and can invest dozens of bils to spend on more rec runes only to get 200HP more. (talking about episode 5 gears, where max possible HP is lot higher)

Dagger/Staff lapising for BPriest/Borc:
There is an awesome thread on how to lapis up your dagger or staff to max out your attack power, please read more here

Idea Note: Remember be smart when you link your gears, especially if you are low on budget. Because lapising up lvl 5īs because it gives the most stats might not be always true. As example... if you link lvl 5 Safe, you will get 20 def. If you linke dual safe 1 you will get 21 def, but you saved lot more gold, as duals are generaly cheaper than lvl 5īs.
Therefore do not mindlessly spend more gold than necessary, when you could achieve same results for less. Think about your gears before you link them and plan ahead. This goes especially for gears with fewer slots. Idea

Accessory Lapises

These lapises can be linked into accessories only, all have 1% chance to link and may break the item you are linking it to!

For more info about all Acessories, please refer to Grimīs Accessory Guide as it includes even quest rewards,NPC accessories, etc.

Linking tips:

  • Do not use any hammers on lvl 5 lapises, cause it is cheaper without them.
  • Upgraded blacksmith in Guildhouse gives +2% chance to link to all lapises, if you have access to GH and this blacksmith, always use it.
  • Do not wait for bless to pop to start linking, you get the highest chance to link when the bless bar is behind the inventory icon. It wonīt go any higher than that.
  • Do not use OP for the cheap lvl 6 lapises, such as Forbid, Vigot, Wit, Mental etc. Take a bunch and try your luck at GH blacksmith where you will get 3% chance on them
  • As lvl 60 you get +1% chance in linking, however it doesnīt relate to completely all types of linking. Such as linking lvl 6 with OP and in GH, always gets you 22% max no matter if you are lvl 60 or not.

Epiloque

Congratulations! You got to the end of the guide. I hope you found some useful informations here and this guide helped you a bit in any way. As you can see, its still under construction, missing pictures, better formating etc. and its taking me forever to finish lol. But I am slowly getting there...

Tips and hints:

  • Patience is your virtue! Honestly, Priests/Oracles are usually the ones getting all the crap when something goes wrong. So just think your own, and donīt pay attention to it.

  • With the new(Ep5.1) skills update Healing became the best skill to heal your allies with and that is even for low WIS builds! Lets do some math now:

You are a low WIS build, meaning you got only 73 WIS, since you canīt have any less than that as lvl 60.

    Healing lvl 7: 4x 73 (your WIS) + 1,770 = 2,062 HP (1 sec cast time);
    therefore 2062* 2,5 = 5,155 HP in 2,5 sec

    Recovery lvl 4: 4x 73 (your WIS) + 3,549 = 3,841 HP (2,5 sec cast time)

As you can see timewise Healing heals more HP, and its safer to use, cause with its only 1 sec cast time, there are less chances of you getting interruped while casting the spell.

  • Do not underestimate dispels! At certain situation it is more important to dispel someone first before healing him. So get to know the dangerous debuffs and dispel those.

  • Always stay on the edge of the range of the dispel, so you donīt get caught in the debuff range. You are the one who should dispel, not to be dispeled.

  • Especially in PvP do not res anyone, who shouts REEZZZ!!! on you. Wait till the push is over, or when situation around is calm enough. During those 6 seconds you spent
ressurecting someone your entire party might have died, because you havenīt dispeled or healed them.

  • When Potential Motive gets triggered use it! That is the best time to cast buffs like EB, you can spam instant heal etc.

  • For Godī s Sakes, do NOT stand close to other priests. No matter if at pvp or at boss, priests need to spread out! Or the enemy comes AoEīs and all pretty priesties go down...

  • Did I already say it? Dispel! Dispel! DISPEL! Seriously, in 1-70 pvp this skill is the one most important. If you see fighter pushing, then spam dispel him. Itīs quite simple, dispel!

  • Some people may think that attack speed is not as important for a healer. Thats not true, if you donīt have Flash in your dagger, try to use melon ice and see the difference in your heals. They will be cast faster same as dispels, therefore more efficient.

This guide is still under construction!
I will be updating things, tweaking it, checking spelling and grammar, adding pictures etc. However the most important things are finished, so if anyone wanna help and could provide me with screenshotīs that are obviously missing, I would really appriciate that^^
