You need to use the image code. [img]insert sig here[/img]. Type that into your signature while editing your profile. My little sister and I make some decent sigs if we have the material.

Depending on your sig size, you can also add [center][/center] tags to... well, center it. =P Center tags don't work in regular forum posts, but they will work on a sig.

You can find a 'fan art' forum section for specific games here - just look in your respective game's forum to find it. Many people offer sig-making services and list them in fan art. Give it a check.^^
