Just looking at it I would think that adding points in Critical Rate will net more damage then adding points in raw damage, especially if player has a Critical Damage of 300%. So... I did some math. Shockingly, the results were in favor of DMG over CRIT; unless I did something horribly wrong in my calculations, or there are some factors I overlooked. **WARNING WALL OF NUMBERS**

Given 99 points in DMG is about 35% and 99 points in CRIT is about 25%. (Each point in DMG add 0.35% damage and each point in CRIT adds 0.25% critical rate).

For examples below, let damage = 200 at 0 points in DMG; therefore, 99 points in DMG = 200 x 1.35 = 270.

IF 200% CRIT DMG, let critical rate = 0% at 0 points in CRIT

200 (0 DMG, 99 CRIT) = 200 damage, 25% critical rate, 200% critical damage

= 200 x [1 + (0.25 x 1.00)] = 250 damage

270 (99 DMG, 0 CRIT) = 270 damage, 0% critical rate, 200% critical damage

= 270 x [1 + (0.00 x 1.00)] = 270 damage

DMG > CRIT

let critical rate = 25% at 0 points in CRIT

200 (0 DMG, 99 CRIT) = 200 damage, 50% critical rate, 200% critical damage

= 200 x [1 + (0.50 x 1.00)] = 300 damage

270 (99 DMG, 0 CRIT) = 270 damage, 25% critical rate, 200% critical damage

= 270 x [1 + (0.25 x 1.00)] = 337.5 damage

DMG >> CRIT (Gap continues to widen as base CRIT increases)

IF 300% CRIT DMG (CAP), let critical rate = 0% at 0 points in CRIT

200 (0 DMG, 99 CRIT) = 200 damage, 25% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 200 x [1 + (0.25 x 2.00)] = 300 damage

270 (99 DMG, 0 CRIT) = 270 damage, 0% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 270 x [1 + (0.00 x 2.00)] = 270 damage

DMG < CRIT (CRIT yields more damages!!!)

let critical rate = 25% at 0 points in CRIT

200 (0 DMG, 99 CRIT) = 200 damage, 50% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 200 x [1 + (0.50 x 2.00)] = 400 damage

270 (99 DMG, 0 CRIT) = 270 damage, 25% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 270 x [1 + (0.25 x 2.00)] = 405 damage

DMG > CRIT (Ehhh? DMG caught up from behind)

let critical rate = 50% at 0 points in CRIT

200 (0 DMG, 99 CRIT) = 200 damage, 75% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 200 x [1 + (0.75 x 2.00)] = 500 damage

270 (99 DMG, 0 CRIT) = 270 damage, 50% critical rate, 300% critical damage

= 270 x [1 + (0.50 x 2.00)] = 540 damage

DMG >> CRIT (Gap increases yet again as base CRIT increases)

According to these calculations the damage from DMG slowly but surely surpasses CRIT as the base (from gears, envoy, etc) critical rate increases. I would think CRIT will only do better than DMG if Damage Reduction is applied after critical multiplier:

CRIT DMG = DMG x 3 - Mob DEF >>> e.g. 200 DMG x 3 - 100 Mob DEF = 500 DMG

if before critical multiplier then DMG is still better than CRIT: CRIT DMG = (DMG - Mob DEF) x 3 >>> (200 DMG - 100 Mob DEF) x 3 = 300 DMG

Before the Wall of Math I thought it was a given that CRIT should yield more damage then DMG especially at cap critical damage of 300%, but this is only the case at low values of base critical.
