Stories of Vladimir
Story one - The hidden mountains and the forces of evil
Fierce winds pounded down upon the city of Carron as thunder and lighting crackled and lit up the night skies. Wolves howled into the night as windows were shuttered and doors barred. Such a storm was unnatural in Carron, as the magi had protected the city from the elements in the past. Guardsmen tried to stand post on the old watch towers a rain pelted them and extinquished the torches that lit the fortifications. The border guard captain shivered as she looked to the western exit of Carron. Suddenly without warning, an explosion lit up the skies west of the city. Flames scorched the fields and powerful shock waves crashed into the fortifications. Walls cracked as one of the towers crashed to the grounds. The guardsmen inside screaming before getting crushed between the rubble.
The captain sounded a horn as more and more horns answered the call throughout the city. Dozens of guardsmen rushed towards the west gate as the defense answered the call to arms. Without wasting time, the border captain led a troop to the source of the explosion. Treading through the burnt grounds, they came face to face with an odd looking structure. A mysterious glow coming from within. As they approached, screeches pierced the guards ears as demonic creatures rushed out of the portal. Reptilian like with clawed hands and scaled bodies, the green eyed monsters wasted no time in setting upon the bewildered guardsmen. Screams broke out as the first as the gatekeeper demons ripped into the lines. A front soldier tried to deflect an attack as the demons tail tripped the guard. Losing his balance, he dropped his weapon as the demon sliced his throat open, gurgling, the dying soldier collapsed as more men took his position.
Sounding another horn, the guards formed a shield phalanx around the guard captain as reinforcements answered the call from the city. Another of the demons ripped into the line as a soldier was dragged screaming into the horde of monstrosities. The soldiers in the centre dropped their spears in favor of bows as they loosened arrow after arrow against the fiends. Several of them staggered, green blood streaming from the wounds but on and on they came. They jumped into the phalanx, ripping apart the soldiers as the formation shattered. The guard captain turned around to flee but was smashed across her forehead as she slowly fell among the dying troops. Vision blurring as blood poured freely from her wound. She watched as the remaining soldiers were ripped to pieces before collapsing among her own life blood.
Reinforcements, screaming in vengence unleashed a stream of arrows and magic spells. Magician Minearm, enraged at the loss of life. Ripped away waves of the hordes lines. Faltering, the remaining demons dispersed as riders entered the field, cutting through the fleeing filth. Swords stained with green blood, the soldiers were enraged as they cried for revenge. Soon, the fields were quiet except for the occasional moan of a dying soldier. Closing around the portal, the Keron Magi studied the strange structure as the soldiers rested.
Going closer to the portal, Minearm threw a rock into the glowing purple light. The rock instantly disapeared. Going back to the mages, he discussed with them the possibility of sending for reinforcements from Juno and sending in an expeditionary force to uncover what was on the other side of the portal. Agreeing to take up arms, Shaman Hallucina stepped forward with her apprentices, followed by Assassin Knight Fang and her soldiers. Together, they ventured into the purple light as waves of brave soldiers disapeared into the glow.
Stepping fourth into the odd burning light, the troops stumbled about as they tried to gather their bearings. Ruined buildings lay about the odd city they had landed in, long since abandoned, the walls had crumbled in many places, leaving gaps in the defenses. "Where the heck are we?" Questioned Fang as she looked about in wonder. "This city looks like it predates the race wars, i'm scared to think of where we have landed", replied Hallucina as she shivered. Heading out, the troops started to secure the town.
Within the first night, the peace was broken as screams and shrieks filled the air. Raving bands of injured and rotting men, elves, titans and all other manner of races assailed the walls. The madmen and undead crashed into the scared linesmen as they tried desperately to make a formation. Blood immediately stained the ground, only further encouraging the onslaught. The forces of madness crashed through the lines and into the city proper. All around, flames ripped through tents as soldiers were ripped apart. The dead ate at the corpses of the fallen while others jumped on fleeing guards, biting and ripping apart the panicked men. Charging forward, Fang ripped her blades into a dead sorcerer, pulling back and decapitating the monster. Turning around, she sliced sideways at a approaching rogue, the rogues arm fell lifelessly to the ground yet the thing just kept coming. She stabbed again but to no effect, the undead rogue lunged at Fang and tackled her to the ground, trying to bite her, Fang desperately avoided attack after attack. Grabbing a dagger from her belt, she plunged it into the things throat and ripped into it, black liquid slushed out as the creature, lifeless, fell upon her.
Hallucina, realizing the camp was being overrun, resorted to using destruction magic. With a short incantation, she unleashed a torrent of flame upon the fleeing soldiers and oncoming horde. The fire burned through both sides, destroying all in its path. Flames ripped apart the undead while soldiers, still alive, cried in agony. The remaining undead, unphased by the magic, kept on coming, cursing, Halluncina fled back towards the portal, but stumbled upon something lodged into the ground. She turned back, noticing it was a few charms. Grabbing on to them, she immediately noticed the undead started to back away. Realizing this must of been what kept these people safe. She chucked a charm at Fang and ran forward with the remaining few guards. Fighting desperately, the undead fell back, out of the city proper and into the fields. What few soldiers left gathered around Fang and Hallucina as they prepared to fall back to the portal till reinforcements arrived.
Several days later, Fang had moved forward into the hills with a squad of elite soldiers while Hallucina took to the injured. Reinforcements poured through the gates as the flags of both Carron and Randol waved in the wind. The soldiers waste little time, as they see the encampment ruined and bodies, as well as blood still littering the ground. They disperse as men moved up to secure the position while Observer Elios ran up to Hallucina. She explained the charms and reported that Fang had mentioned three imposing structures in the region, each glowing with colours matching the charms. Realizing what it must mean, Elios called for his best soldiers. Being instructed what to do, they followed Hallucina into the hills as she performed incantations and fused the holy charms with the structures. Each one, collapsing slowly after being fused. As the third structure collapsed, a wild shriek echoed throughout the hills, the soldiers collapsing as the sound pierced into their heads. A gigantic monstrosity rushed down upon them, enraged and determined. Hallucina fell back "It can't be...this place is... we can't fight a god!" A guard Captain looked back towards Hallucina in fear and fell back, dropping his sword as he tried to run, the beast, noticing his escape, pounced on the soldier. With a sudden bite, the beast ripped the captain in two as blood splattered the ground.
The remaining soldiers started charging forward, stabbing futilely at the beast, nothing worked as the monster turned its gaze upon a group of guards. The men paused, suddenly confused, foam started pouring from their mouths as the men, now enraged set upon their own comrades. "What in the bloody heck is going on?!" Yelled a wounded guard as he stumbled back. "That thing is called Leviathan, he is the god of madness!" Screamed Hallucina as she stared at the creature. "I never signed up to fight a god!" said the guard as he fled back into the hills, abandoning his dying comrades. "Coward, get bac..." Hallucina started to say, but suddenly found it hard to speak, her mouth opened but only blood came out. She looked down as a spear had pierced into her, one of the madened guardsmen had come, he looked at her quizically and then pulled the spear out, turning the weapon upon himself.
Hours passed as search parties looked for Hallucina. Fang and a troop came upon the bloody scene as dozens of mutilated bodies littered the ground. The soldiers rushed foward as they searched for survivers. One guard called out that Hallucina was still alive and Fang ran towards them. Coughing up blood, Hallucina grabbed onto fangs shoulderplate and whispered "The god of madness...he walks among us". As she finished talking, Halluncina passed out, Fang, motioning for a soldier to carry Hallucina back to camp, headed out alone, following the path that Leviathan made.
Hours passed as Fang climbed the mountain peak, high above the lands and the rest of the world, she could see hundreds of miles of forsaken landscape. Ruined towns and cities sprinkled the land as she wondered where they had been teleported to. Suddenly a roar ripped through the serene silence. The beast was upon her as she rolled back, furious claws ripping into the area that she stood. Quickly, she chucked one of her daggers into the beasts fur, it stuck, blood freely flowing from its wound. Unphased from the attack, the beast set upon her as it ripped again and again at her.
Several cuts bled profusely from wounds on Fang as she desperately fought on, her duel sword shattered as one blade broke in half. The sword flying off the edge of the mountain. Swearing, she grabbed another dagger to use with her remaing sword as she rushed forward. Stabbing away at the beast, she cut again and again at the god as it started to sway. Drinking a healing potion, Fang jumped upon the demons back and cut deeply into the gods throat. Leviathan roared in pain as she held on, stabbing again and again at leviathans head. The god wandered too close to the side and started tumbling off the cliff. Fang, determined to make sure that the god of madness perished, fell with him. Thouands of feet they fell as they battled in the air, Fang bled as she took hit after hit and delivered hit after hit onto the god. Suddenly they hit ground and there was silence. The bones of leviathan shattered as the beast splattered into a pile of gore, Fang, hitting the ground after, died immediately as every bone in her body shattered.
Weeks later, Halluncina, now back to good health was on a search party to find Fang. They searched high and low but couldn't find anything. Eventually, they spotted an odd shape of snow at the base of a mountainside. Getting closer, Hallucina wiped some of the snow away, uncovering the broken and gruesome body of Leviathan. She moved back, frightened as she tripped over a smaller form. Suddenly scared, she desperately started uncovering the body. Tears freely flowing down her eyes as the face of Fang was uncovered, she was still smiling, even after death. Hallucina hugged her as she cried. Pain clearing showing in her face as she begged that this was all a sick joke. They had uncovered a past forgotten land and slain an evil god, but what was the cost? So many had fallen to make a foothold in this region. Anyone who came through the portal was scarred as they saw friends and loved ones die as from horrors unimaginable. The skies darkened as snow fell upon the lands, as if the gods themselves cried for all that was lost this day.
