@ Relaera: For SB itself, the age verification is the legal and moral cover for Aeria. If you are a minor and signing up for the game, that's not Aeria's issue. The issue at stake here though, is about the advertising for SB, which is done in an adult, suggestive manner across a website that is 13+, not 18+ (ie the entire Aeria website and forums). To me, that's akin to advertising for adult magazines on TV during the afternoon/early evening ("bares it all", "staying on top", "get ready for a whipping", etc).

Don't get me wrong, I am no prude. Far from it. But there's something called "morally appropriate". I still don't think advertising adult stuff in an adult way on a website that allows minors is morally appropriate. Given that Supe, Leo or any of the others have yet to answer this question, I will assume that Aeria chooses to ignore it. Which in turn speaks volumes about their approach to moral issues in general.

Not that I didn't know that already. Once upon a time, offensive forum and ingame names would be taken care of immediately. Now, you are lucky if they are taken care of at all. I know, I know, the guideline for taking action has been what one can expect "reasonable people" to take offense from, with "reasonable" at any given time being the judgement of the GM handling the case. Comparing the "judgement" of the GMs past and present, I can only conclude it has slipped over the years. A lot. Which I believe is a reflection of the attitudes of their superiors.

As an aside..."Most anticipated MMO of 2013"? I believe ESO ran away with that one a long time ago.

My concerns are the same as billdoor's.

Specifically an announcement inside Shaiya that asked me to join a special "Scarlet Blade event" which was announced as "Schoolgirl uniform event". A softporn event hosting schoolgirls is skirting legal boundaries. I know that the Netherlands is far more progressive than the US in nudity in public (nudity is much more tolerated here on television etc), and I personally got no problems with any of the SB content.

Trying to advertise softporn in conjunction with minors is a heavy offence though (and I am sure it's the same in the US). Even if AGE is located in the US, the European Union could easily start a lawsuit if they wanted (They frequently put charges on internet companies who are commercially active in Europe).

I sense that AGE themselves are still looking for a way to place this explicit 18+ content into their structure, as it doesn't fit with the rest of their activities. I do hope though that they are aware of the legal boundaries of their advertisements, specially as they merchandise their content globally.

Shaiya is not rated by the ESRB. If it were, it would be the same rating as Scarlet Blade, Mature.

I agree, but AGE got that covered with the 18+ or parental consent disclaimer on installing the game client.

There difference is, that the advertisement for Shaiya has never been 18+ from what I have seen. While the SB advertisement is sometimes mature. This is likely due to the passive and active involvement of mature content in either of those games.

Scarlet Blade isn't porn, if it was I doubt it would have all the features of other mmorpgs which would include an actually decent combat system. If just for the fact that there is some sexually suggestive content and nudity in it you call it porn you could put the ridiculous conclusion that such games as Dante's Inferno would be porn(clearly it isn't). As for the advertisments do they just have words that when put together are sexually suggestive and scantly clad females in them? If that is it and if we are going by ESRB rules that would all fall under the Teen section which is considered 13+. As you have agreed that you are atleast 13+ when making your Aeria account your are subject to advertisments that have suggestive content in them.

GM's thanks for picking this up. I noticed today that the cross-game promotion posts have been edited to not contain direct links or insinuating context. I also noticed you added an age verification in the cookie for the entire SB site. At least it's properly covered now.

The forum section of the website is public. An account is not required to watch any of the content.

No one said it was porn, they fais it was soft core porn.

If it's possible for a women to be naked and do very sexually suggestive things (like the video pointed out), it's soft core.

I'd post a picture to show an example, but i can't post that on the forums.

Ironically enough.

Just want to clarify that for most of our adverts outside of aeriagames.com the ads are applied through analytic and adaptive targeting measures.

Simply put - if you're seeing the ads outside of our site, it's because your browsing history and search habits have been tagged as something relevant to Scarlet Blade.

not gonna lie, i'm kinda shocked this is still even up for discussion after this was stated... that's really what it is 100% and i'm sure through the 5+ pages that are most likely in between this post, there had to be some logical comp savvy people that are like " ^ THIS " to Leo's post xD. I mean it pretty much sums it up right there. But since it's still up...

I do see how it can get annoying to see the ads, I still ads for a game for another publisher that I haven't played or visited their site since 2009, I only started seeing the ads cause I started using this machine to see what it can handle xD. I played that game since CB on this machine, on my newer machine, don't see a single ad from that publisher cause I haven't gone to their site nor have I checked the email address associated with that publishing company. If you properly clean out your temp files, your cookies, and site data.. I mean PROPERLY clean it out so there's no trace of the publisher's site then you won't see them, but since you're here and love Aeria, or you wouldn't still be :p , there's a good chance you're going to see SB ad's randomly pop up on other sites.

(*don't need to read this part if u really just have no interest in the game lol not totally on topic It's just my lil opinion of the game I enjoy it, my gf LOVES it*)

oh and Scarlet Blade is a great game lol strangely addicting, yeah the "boobies" are appealing at 1st but for those of us that have gf's, or are females, or are others that know that RL boobies will always be better then digital (I hope I don't get in trouble for using that word lol but it's the most PG way I can think of saying it) and are mature enough to realize it's not just a random pervy xxx game have been having a blast. For those that actually read the NPC dialogue for the quests, the game is 100% self explanatory very easy tutorial, everything you're about to ask it tells you when you need to know it and walks you through it. There's a chunk of very friendly and helpful people in game so the community... could use some work not gonna lie, but is pretty friendly for the most part at least who i've met on Valk.

The story is pretty funny, definitely rather "edgy" and amusing, if you get easily offended I'd suggest not reading it xD, for those that don't want to read the exp rates aren't that bad, instance dungeons are pretty quick and you have the option to go solo (better exp) or in a party (higher drop rate) and the dungeon adjusts accordingly (really just has more mobs and higher drop rate lol). The quest system is great, the only back and forth you have to do is for daily quests at like lv 21+, aside from that the quests transition pretty good, if done through correctly you don't have to really like "Grind" any levels, if you balance pve and pvp... which brings to those that like pvp?

The pvp is pretty fun, caergate (main open pvp map lv 25+ recommended) is pretty active and can be very enjoyable, going after Titan can be pretty intense, the battlegrounds are fun, but need serious work getting a lil tired of seeing like 24 vs 33 on a map that should have 80 vs 80 because the window to register is only like 1-2 seconds *hint hint >_>* I never have issues getting in but I read it all the time in shout. People are complaining about the lack of large scale pvp that should be available that they can't register for when the servers can totally handle it, already been in a number of 80 vs 80, awesome matches.

P.S If you lag get a better connection cause i'm on a very low end machine and get minimal lag only when being attacked by 7+ people at once hahah.

I think you're missing what I'm saying, Twi. I'm not saying "Oh, the game is on a PG-13 website, and it's porn", or something like that (it bothers me, but I'm a grown man, and I can pretend it doesn't exist, like I do with the rest of Aeria). The problem is that these games are being advertised on children websites. I can just ignore it, but children have no idea that they shouldn't be playing the game. And sure, some are honest enough to provide their real age, but a lot more will put in a different age all together and bypass that. And next thing ya know, you've got 7-10 year old playing a game with completely nude women in it.

Superman even said that they can control what websites they appear on, so why is it that I'm getting this ad on the Hub?

they already explained to you how the ads work. It's not that the advertisement is on the children's website, it's that the advertisement is tailored towards you (maybe because you visited Aeria, or a porn site). At the time that you saw the ad, you were the only person to see that ad (ignoring other aeria games players and whatnot)

This is why I don't bother explaining things to you, because when someone does, you still don't get it.

This is why I don't play DWO
