The end is always nearer than you think, but worry not: Every end forms an even greater beginning.
A searing moan escaped the victim's throat.
"Where's the Chief Medic?! We have a molten mess here!"
"I'm right here! Move her to the pod - we have no choice!"
"Her vitals can't even be placed; how is she alive?! Her body is a wreck!"
"Pay attention! I need all the trainees at the controls. Make sure the pod is working right!"
"Everything is ready! Are you sure this will work?"
"It most likely won't."
Rezilia felt a breath - something she believed would never be a part of her again. The stunt she pulled was a suicide mission of her own volition. The fire cells... She had to finish the fire cells...
"So you're awake? That was quite a stunt you pulled back there. You're a Neo-Human yet you managed to take down a King Volcano Beetle. Even for Rezilia the Adventuress, that was an act of pure stupidity."
Rezilia spoke with a raspy, burnt voice, "Did it succeed?"
The Chief Medic sighed. "Yes, the fire cells have been properly manufactured. Your Arkana 'daughter' will be ready in two months."
This made the Adventuress grin from ear to ear. "I'm glad."
Five minutes later, her heart stopped. Rezilia perished, fully at ease.
No one told the newborn Arkana how special she was for years. She grew up with odd ailments: always being far too cold, unable to concentrate for the most part, and able to handle the hottest of temperatures. She could not explain her dilemma herself and her superiors would not tell her the truth.
As time passed, the Arkana became the fifth in her class, despite the fact that being a Whipper meant being in full control of one's actions. Her ailments never ceased to distract her; she wished for just one chance to find out why she was so different from everyone else and so cursed to feel pain at every waking moment.
In the last year of Arkana training, a full-scale battle broke out between the Academy's students. Everyone had gone wild for a reason Muyai could not understand: Sparkles of stardust filled the air. The large quantity affected everyone other than herself. Arkana were killing each other left and right. She knew she had to do something.
The most dangerous of the students - the top ten - were killing the majority of those in the area. Muyai faced them - head to head - until she had knocked out all but the star of the Academy. A new Punisher-Medic hybrid, Jinette was already mad with power even before the incident. Sensing her prey, Jinette unleashed a flurry of attacks at Muyai.
Barely dodging them, Muyai managed to close the distance between then two and wound Jinette enough to cause her to pass out but not before the Dual Cannoneer blasted Muyai with a high-priority stun. Seeing weakness, the other students grouped around Muyai. She could do nothing but watch as their evil grins turned to constant attacks.
Muyai felt her body being sliced apart. At the same time, screams filled her ears. Everyone around her was burning in a blazing inferno. Her blood kept leaking out across the floor. Was it truly blood? To her it looked like lava, consuming anyone that touched it. The large screen near the top of the coliseum centered on Muyai alone. She was not an Arkana, she was something else - living fire!
