A review from a new player

+ A rant
Hi guys Im pretty new here, the game seems great but EVERYONE seems to complain about aeria, from my sort time it seems like there just slow to do things and communication with the player base....But as a new player its a little concerning the amount of hate to the people hosting the game.

Im not saying there doing a good job and the hate is not justified. There advisement for this game is nothing , i only found it after looking for a game i played 6+ years ago Gunz the duel. And stoped playing that after a day as 9/10 games had hackers, the kick system didn't work and everyone said that aeria had abandoned the game.(it sure looked like it from my sort time)

While i was downloading this game i did what im sure alot of people do when they want to get/ researching a new game and did the youtube/google search for "dynasty warriors online/review"..There are not many current videos and the reviews being 1 year+ old are mostly bad.. this is the 1st result for "dynasty warriors online review" on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NehMpPlKM0s

I wont dwell to much on the many things wrong with this review..He doesn't have the attention span to finish the tutorial let alone a review

Iv seen a few post of people blaming the community of scaring, scaming and bullying new people out of the game. I must have been one of the lucky ones as not long after u got guard rank a random person wispered me if i need help with quest, i didnt but wanted someone to quest with and not long after he invited me to his guild with a bunch of great people. I have seen idiots harassing people but no more then anything else that involves anything with people on the internet.

So in sort, Besides minor things like the length of the tutorial or maybe more starting gear. the game is great. The biggest weakness of dynasty warriors online seems to be Aeria(Alt farming/scaming ect are problems, but problems i think Aeria could fix if they really wanted and falls under game management)

I have a few ideas like im sure everyone else dose that could improve the game. i wont waste my time on all my wack and crazy ideas unless someone at aeria would like to hear them..But the most obvious one i can see giving a big boost the the community and wallet of aeria(or koei, im not sure what would happen to aeria) but if the game was hosted on steam. Just by being added to steam a potential 5 million+ people would see it on the steam front page on release and i have a feeling the game could easily be in the top 10 of F2P games

You could also have more community events( Like the youtube music contest) But maybe somehow realise a map editor and have a competition on making new maps, increasing the content of the game and getting the community involved.

Also
Weapon design contest
Armor design contest
New quest Contest(Have the winners character added as a officer/NPC to the game)
New/More events( Random event that last a hour at a location of the next CP that give double Victory points)

I hope at the very least someone takes notice and fix's the minor problems that your responsible for.like your communication with your players and server management. But judging by the general mood in game and around the fourms, i have a feeling no one at aeria will even see this or care and this will become another post of hate...

But if you are like me and stalking the forum as a new player. Give the game ago, you would have played a previous DW game, that is why your here. And if you enjoyed it you will enjoy this..at least for awhile.

You have nothing to scam as Guard, and I suppose you are one of those lucky one that get invited into a guild, so God bless your great time.

I think the idea with steam has also been discussed before, but one of Aeria strength have always been the fact all their games are F2P, so it would probably against the company's ideal by hosting it on steam.

Having a weapon / armor / map design contest sounds cool, although, since Aeria don't have any say whatsoever in this game ("Blame KOEI"), it's probably just gonna end up to be drawing contest.

As for Gunz getting hacked....., I think the game has been hacked before the Ijji merge? Then it's Ijji fault, not Aeria. Most, if not all, Aeria games don't have any issue related to hacker I believe.

hmm you can tell that was really old (metalsnake left a comment)

Can not help but wonder what his review would have been like if he played a game of confront ,capture or better yet a 12 vs 12 real fight in a Showdown.
Still in my opinion the brightest and best part of DWO(campaign's used to be fun but with all the
negativity AFTER and how friggin' long they are....)

Yes it can get repetitive,And having people rage at you constantly after the game gets old and frustrating.
But Showdowns are beyond awesome.Your part of something bigger than yourself. And If you know what to do and follow a plan even a player like me can make a difference, and be succesful Smile

P.S -I am with you for going to steam
Just because a game is "free" (it really isn't...some one has to pay to keep it going)
Does not mean you should treat your customers so poorly

Edit:I would also like to point out that as a community the negative comments always far out weigh the positive.
Example ?---> rage/complaining topics at least 1 (some times up to 6)topics dealing with campaign's.(every week, after a campaign)
Positive?--->as far as i can remember there was only 1,a good game topic (made by either lion or Shizz...I can not remember exactly who)

I hope it didn't get lost in my rant but i am enjoying the game, i was lucky enough to play in the last SD and have played in a following CP and had blast! (looking forward to my 1st SV Smile )
Iv also played a quite a few melee game VS other people in various modes and have fun with that to.(dispite the lag, but me being in Australia and the server in Canada im not going to blame anyone as its obviously the distance to the server and not the server itself..also its not that bad besides the occasional spike)

Iv enjoyed my last few weeks so much so that iv invested in AP. I have played and enjoyed most of the past DW games and knew what to expect, the gameplay has been the same since number 2 and iv enjoyed it. i understand the style and repetitiveness is not for everyone but koei seem to add enough content each game to make it interesting (for me anyway) and DWO is no exception.

Creating your own warrior, fighting for your faction and serving under your favorite officer who you have slain countless thousands of people with in previous games is great. How they have done the whole flask thing took me a little while to get used but it dose add another layer of tactics to the game(do you power up or try and steal that base that the enemy is capping)

Like i said in the original post, unless i nit-pick at minor details there is really nothing wrong with the game itself. I have not been around long enough to give a honest and true opinion but the general vibe i get ingame and on these forums is that Aeria/koei has droped the ball on the technical and business management of this game.

I also understand that KOEI is the developer of the game and aeria just provide the hosting and management of the game. but i would think Aeria would/could have some influence on content as they are the middle man between the playing community and developers( thats assuming that areia and koei care what we think, whitch im sure alot of people think they dont but i believe they do.

Its very easy to jump on the hate wagon but somewhere in the world DWO is putting food on someones plate and people spend/spent hours/days/weeks/months in programs making the game that im sure there proud of.not everyone dose it purely for money. And the haters voices is usually greater..well maybe not greater but louder then the praise

That being said im sure both aeria and koei could do more. And the main point i wanted to get across to aeria is as a new player iv heard alot of things along the line of

"The game is dead"
"Aeria has abandoned the game to focus on its other more successful/popular titles"
"Events are broken"
"problems that are easy fix's are not fixed"
"The community is mean to new players"
"Lack of new content"
"Lack of communication between players and GMs,Host and developers"

If any of the above is true or not, its what i as a new player read and got the feeling of and im sure has stoped people from buying AP or not play the game all together.

This isnt intended as a hate/bash topic but as a new player review that will hopefully point out some 1st impression concerns i have for this great game

*EDIT*
Also the legendary beast in kunlun mountain are epic! and anyone thinking DWO is easier or more dumbed down then previous games probably has yet to encounter them Wink

Steam hosts a large number of free to play games, which include ...ya know what, here's the current selection, including some Aeria partner games, like Tribes and Stronghold Kingdoms.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're right. I just think Aeria is just being stupid about it. ****, Elsword has been trying to get the game on there for a while now. In fact, I think steam could be the fastest way to save this game, but I doubt it'll ever happen, all things considered.

Back on topic, The designing contests, interesting as they are, probably wouldn't work since the game itself originates in Japan, and Koei would have to be the ones to have the contest authorized for this server.

More events would be a plus, though.

Awesome work actually saying that you could actually be the problem (To be sure you know, not an insult). So often, I see people complaining about lag, and I see locations like Australia, China, Taiwan, or even Japan (which is about as far as you can get), and not thinking distance could be the problem.

On the subject of steam, i don't know whether to tread carefully or not. if the game went to steam would that take aeria out of the picture?(i would assume abusing the host and suggesting someone else take the game would be a good way to get a topic locked/deleted)

doesn't matter. Aeria + Koei under contract for x time. Steam will never get it.

This is why I don't play DWO

I would think that if it went to steam at the expense of loosing aeria it wouldn't happen. Im not sure how it works but couldn't it hosted on steam, managed by aeria and published by KOEI?

Koei doesn't care enough about this game to want to increase it's population or fix it's issues.

This is why I don't play DWO
