Security

Someone posted something about security, or rather the lack of on Aeria games. I waited to see a response, but didn't find any. Well actually I can't even find the original post. If the GM's took it off, hmmm, that doesn't look good.

I am very concerned about security for the games I play. I use microsoft essentials and AVG. What security does Aeria have. After all, the games urge us to spend real money, is Aeria protecting us?

Are you asking what security does Aeria offer its users? If so, I would think none. Computer security is the responsibility of the user, not the company. And with as much free software is out there, it shouldn't be a required component and I can't think of one game that offers it.

Are you asking what security does Aeria use to protect our accounts? That I'm not sure and not sure they could even tell us as that could be a security risk on its own. But in the time I've been with Aeria, I've never had or heard of an issue with security breaches.

I played GF for a time, and there were huge number of accounts that were hacked. They made some attempt to make it more secure, and it actually made the problem worse, so the "fix" was removed.

What you are talking about was a 1 time bug with the client that allowed somebody to access peoples accounts without their passwords. This bug was fixed within 2 hours and no personal info or account details were breached. Aeria gave back any Items, gold or AP that had been compromised during the bug.

It's also like blackdeath said, account security is pretty simple. Providing you don't have or download any malware so your account would be safe unless you share your details with somebody.

Thank you for your question.

The security methods are not publicly available.
Your billing purchases are protected by the payment provider you pick, such as PayPal and so on.

Here are some tips on how to prevent your account from being compromised:

  • Change your password frequently and use lower and upper cases as well as some numbers or signs. Passwords such as "Password123" are not really secure.
  • Do not share your password with anyone - GM's would NEVER ask you for your password.
  • Keep the email and its password that you use for the account secret and don't share it with ANYONE.
  • Do not use "free stuff" pages and "free hacks" pages - those only want your account information.
  • Keep your computer and anti-virus up to date.
  • If you are using a public computer, don't save your password on the machine and remember to log out!
