Within the game, the brawl tips reveal that the three nations have advantages over one another, kinda like rock-paper scissors.

Corsairs defeat Gypsies easily,
Gypsies defeat Bounty Hunters easily,
and Bounty Hunters defeat Corsairs easily.

In addition, it also reveals that all three types are effective against monster types (Pixie Archer, Humita, etc...)

However, how "big" is this advantage? Obviously, a Level 1 N-rated Corsair wouldn't be able to defeat a Maxed Humita.

Oh, so the "advantage" is really not that great.

This explains the occasions when an "attack" would fail, because if the bonus was any higher than 20%, the attacker would have too much advantage.
