Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sangokushi)

KOEI's Romance of the Three Kingdoms
If you know Dynasty Warriors, you may know something of the history and/or the novel it is [to an extent] based on. You also may or may not know of Koei's Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sangokushi), then. For those who do not...

It is a turn-based tactics and strategy simulation game series. Depending on which installment in the series, you take control of a hero, a ruler, or entire force. However--you do not simply "jump into the battlefield". You handle more sides of this time and age such as domestics, diplomacy, development, debates, and duels.

You will notice personalities such as Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Sun Quan, amongst hundreds of others.

Two that I own are ROTK XI and ROTK XII (which are the latest two installments). ROTK XII seems a lot less involved, though. More about battle. In XI (eleven), you control a sovereign but you are pretty much playing everyone within your force. It's also up to eight players. Very Happy

You can play as your usual three force / kingdoms (that of Shu, Wei, and Wu). You can also play as Yuan Shao, Dong Zhuo, and the Yellow Turbans. More challenging sovereigns such as the bandit leader Yan Baihu or even create your own.

There is officer/official creator where you can choose the appearance, stats, friends, enemies, and personality. With applications and programs it is possible for even more customization. Here are some screen shots.

EDIT: I will post screenshots when I figure out how! LOL!

Here is the US site though: http://www.koei.com/rtkxipc/

I am doing the 211 scenario "Ma Chao's Rebellion", with created officer, Zhou Yun. A relative of Zhou Yu
who decided to complete Zhou Yu's plan. He joined Ma Chao as his strategist and become his sworn brother.
However--he was captured and forced to help Cao Cao. He was liked by Cao Cao for his abilities as an advisor. In 212 however, when Guo Shi (Guo Nuwang) enters Cao Pi's harem, it eventually leads to him favoring her over his wife, Zhen Shi (Zhen Ji). Zhen Shi in turn begins having a secret affair with Zhou Yun who had fallen for each other but dared not speak of it. This is found out by Zhang Tao (Guo Shi's confidant) who informs Cao Pi. An assassination attempt is made on Zhou Yun, fearing for his life flees from Wei with Zhen Shi to reunite Ma Chao. In Shang Yong, Zhou Yu raises an army for the battle againgst Cao Pi.

That's how it is supposed to go... but then stupid Zhang Lu decides to attack me while I am still small! LOL

Although Cao Cao will not really attack me and if he does, Zhen Shi can persuade him from doing so, Cao Pi likes sending entire armies through mountains for me once Cao Cao dies from age.

My force has Zhen Shi, Ma Chao, Ma Dai, Ma Yunlu, Pang De, and Zhang Lu. Lesser known officers of both camps joined me. A couple of captured officers from Liu Zhang... Shen Dan and Shen Yi as well. Allied with Shu. I am pretty sure I will die of age before I unify it this game though. lool. (He dies around 221; forgot to change that).

Anyway, anyone else play? Have any questions or want to see what their favorite officers and officials look like on here?

But of course PC. Wink

I'm not sure how much editing can be done with PS2 or Wii version. There are like three or four versions for PC.

JAPAN
PUK version
Power-up Kit
US
Is there a Taiwan or Chinese version as well? It is really popular there.
Some special version released only for JP which has the 50 Bandit Kings, too.

I have done editing, modding, and deep searching to get the 18 bonus characters from the PS2 version and other things for my installation.

graphically it was the most impressive of the series,And if i remember right after you beat it you could unlock the characters designs for duels, the duels were a lot of fun.
I liked the different skills you could get for your character (like overlord and what not)
Been a long time since I played RMOTK 11.Game play wise I prefered 7,8 and 10.
Being able to play as a officer, warlord or free soldier was fun.And having multible characters(7,8 ) was enjoyable as well.
I had mine on the PS2.Also the lands were so far away from one another everything felt isolated, distant and disconnected.....I also liked the council feature were you could ask your officers for there strategy....

And how the characters looked a lot like there dynasty warriors/dynasty tactics design's was cool to

Yes, I believe VIII is most people's favorite and then it is a toss up between IX, X, and XI.

I love both debates and duels. I am still a little salty with dueling though... Last time I fought my so-called "sworn brother" he tricked me into a duel only to shoot me from my horse with a bow and arrow before the duel actually started. -________________-

While you could unlock the unique models for created officers, with Hex Editor for PC, you can create your own models. If you are advanced, you can take it even further than that. I'll post my created sovereign later as an example but there is a chinese forum where they've done wonders.

Capture was the best skill.

@Technature: Yes, it was not a quick-play type game. You would be investing some time. Might work well while waiting for battles on DWO. Razz

@Fwiff and Kalia: Some people claimed Capture to be the most "broken" skill. Haha.
