Logic fail

Spot the logic fail in the below quote when reading the posts it was supposed to answer (you don't have to look far for the thread in question). I'll make it easier for y'all though - what if the case in point concerns a monopoly?

When two similar companies are compared, the company with the better service (all other items being equal) does better

Quote seems true enough. Who's a monopoly?

A certain company hosting a certain game for which there is no real legal alternative host. If you want to keep playing the game, you are stuck with the host, ie the monopoly.

Mmm... well if one of them is a monopoly, then they both are, and must be equal in that matter according to the quote. I don't see the logic fail.

The fail is that the posts that quote is supposed to answer suggests there are two or more companies who can provide the same service, when there in the case in point is realistically only one for the vast majority of its customers (unless you belong to certain nationalities).

Ah, I see what you're referring to. Though, this makes his quote irrelevant to the situation at hand, not necessary failed logic.

While I can agree with this, I don't feel it holds as much weight as you may think. It's quite common for people to leave Aeria in general due to poor service, and find new F2P 'homes', especially with how F2P driven the industry is becoming. On the flip side, people remain loyal to Aeria (or other companies) due to positive service, even if it means not looking into a higher quality F2P game hosted elsewhere.

Ultimately, in my experience, the forum community and players who have direct experience with a publisher's customer service is a minority compared to a game's player-base. So.. really none of this has that huge of an impact, it's more so about how many games a publisher is hosting.

Can't fault you there, TNK.

My perspective is about the game I happen to play at Aeria, a game where Aeria has virtual monopoly for my part of the world (I am aware of the European versions of Shaiya, but they are still hosted by Aeria subdivisions), so I have no real choice between distributors in order to see whether I'd be treated better or worse. Thing is though, when Aeria is in a monopoly situation, they should take greater pains to meet the expectations of their players. As was pointed out in the previous thread, a paying player in a monopoly situation isn't necessarily a happy player.
