One of the first books that I learned to read was a picture book that contained animal jokes. I guess I would have been 5 or 6 at the time. It was a great book. It had such gems as:
Q: What time is it when a hippo sits on a bench?
A: Time to get a new bench!
Q: Where does a two ton gorilla sit in a movie theater?
A: Wherever it wants to!
Anyway, so I'm sitting here eating a bagel when this book that I haven't read for almost 20 years comes drifting back into my mind. One of the jokes that had always eluded me as a child concerned a rather unusual duck.
Q: What does a duck do when it flies upside down?
A: It quacks up!
I didn't get it. What does that even mean?
Well I just got it! You see, the duck quite literally would project its quacks vertically. But that's not the whole joke. The phrase "quacking up" is a bit of a pun, also slang for a person who is going crazy. And wouldn't you say that a duck flying upside down is a little crazy? I would. This joke is friggin' hilarious.
That's all. Carry on.
