actually, the wiki can give you a lot of handy information. it's been useful for me (and to others) since i started playing LC in addition to checking on LC forum once in a while.

with regards to your question: if you choose not to mount your pet (p1), it will just stay with you (and not fight) as you fight mobs when you equip it (giving you buff that it has learned and at the same time getting xp for itself to level).

have fun! Smile

Thanks for the reply Smile

I think its just not as beginner friendly as it could be. When i first started a lot of the info i needed to know i had to find out from other sources.

Yeah i knew about the buffs, i just wasnt sure if it acted like a summon and actually fought with/for you in either of its stages Smile

Short answer: No. You can not fight effectively while on any mount. You can not use your weapon. You can not use your skills.

Long answer: The pets can get confusing...There are a couple of different types.

P1 pets are the ones you get from pan flutes and drake eggs. Both those get exp as you fight (They do not gain extra exp for you. They just gain 1 exp for themselves for every 3 seconds you are hitting a mob that is not blue named. Note it has nothing to do with how many mobs you kill.)

After they reach lvl 31, you have the option to mount them from the pet trainer. ***Once mounted, it will no longer gain exp, will no longer lvl up, and can't be turned back into an 'unmount' without buying a special ap item from the item mall i.e. cash shop***

An unmounted p1 pet (either one) is extremely useful at the lower lvls for the defensive/attack passive skill it has, depending on your class, how good your armor is, and what pots you are using. Make sure you put its skill points on at the animal trainer each time it lvls up. It is still useful later on, tho sometimes mostly as a meat shield as there are some mobs that prefer attacking pets instead of their owners. The p1 pets lose 1 hp each time they get hit, so they die slower than I do and can survive extra mobs attacking them better than I can. Keep plenty of pet food on hand and probably on your skill bar if you are using them around pet eaters.

A mounted p1 pet has useful skills.

A Horse Mount can learn a party attack buff, a party defense buff, and a skill called crying that will attract the nearby mobs to attack the caster. It has other skills, but as they go away when you dismount they are of limited use. lvl 31 is not high enough to max the attack buff and defense buff. You want to take it to at least 37, preferably 38 before mounting it.

A Dragon Mount looks cool, flies, has some attack skills that can be used while its mounted, but generally is considered a vanity item rather than really useful. (With the exception of around Halloween when it can be used to hunt pumpkins during the event.)

Long answer: (Yes, it keeps going.)

P2 pets...It's best to get into the individual characteristics of P2 pets by using the Wetpaint guide. But the basics are:

P2 are obtained thru the item mall, or buying from players who have used the item mall. They do not drop in game.

P2 pets can help you attack, have useful skills, can be set up to automatically defend you and themselves, tho they can not b set up to attack mobs that are not already attacking you. They can also be set up to attack any mobs you are attacking, even if the mobs do not get the chance to hit you. (This is useful for a distance fighter.) They can be set up to automatically pick up drops. There are several spots for them to be told to do things in the AI, but if i remember correctly, anything after the 3rd spot is glitched and wont work properly. I think its self feeding is also glitched. (Feel free to jump in and correct me here.) Ask someone in game to help you get it set up the first time as it's a bit confusing.

A high lvl p2 pet can really speed things up for you and take care of some tedious tasks like farming some extra skill points, gathering affinity, lvling itself.

P2 pets gain exp based on the lvl of the mob you kill. The higher the lvl mob, the more exp the p2 pet gains when you kill it. It is not capped by your lvl or whether the mob is a higher or lower lvl than it, so you can kill any mob and it will get exp. Boss mobs give it 4x the exp it would usually get for a regular mob of that lvl.

You can buy armor and weapons for your p2 pet at the pet merchant. Make sure you get the right stuff for your class of p2. (itchi/scratchi vs animal vs demon) It doesnt really matter if you use a mag glass on the stuff, as long as your pet is wearing it he/she will get a big boost.

P2 pets go thru 1 or more evolutions to more powerful stages. It must be at least lvl 50 before you can evolve it at the pet trainer. The skills it can learn change at each evolution and it does not keep skills from lower lvl stages. That said, the base stats it starts with at each evolution can be improved by lvling it beyond lvl 50 before evolving it. (If you have the patience for it.) Some pets actually have better skills in their baby form, tho their attack and defense is sadly lacking.

Some p2 pets you can ride at certain evolutions, tho you still can not fight with your weapon from their backs.

****Maxie: this pet does not fight. It sits there and lvls and absorbs exp that it stores for you. It does not lessen the exp you get, just pulls extra out from the last dieing breath of each monster you kill. Every once in a while you can ask for that exp back and it obligingly regurgitates it for you. Maxie is the choice for high lvl players as the exp gain slows down considerably when you approach the lvl cap.
