I main tanks, but just like the previous comment I am only tanking for a non troll or non ignorance party. For example, I had so many experience where dps er in the party were not strong enough to cleared the mobs in which put a lot of stress on me and the healer. I had no problem with that, until dps er said you died a lot, are you sure you know how to tank?

I think you all have the wrong impression, there isnt a lack of tanks - There is a lack of tanks who havent maxed their cp already, if you main tank you max your cp by the time your 10-15% into a level and if your not gaining cp why would you tank? I myself almost never tank even though its my main just for that fact. Even if I'm only at 50% cp I'll wait until its a last resort to volunteer if I know the group can handle it with a lesser tank. If its a bad group I'll probably tank to keep from getting annoyed at everyone else, but if its a good group I'll let a crappy tank do it so I can sit back and enjoy the alt class leveling.

My own opinion at lv 55, take it how you will

I am assuming you are from Diamond server, correct me if I am wrong. Lol! But in Sapphire, geared healers are NOT Rare.

I agree with the idea that some tanks are just focused on getting a Trial or Dungeon Party from the best resort Guildmates or friends. But I honestly don't get what's about with those screenshots? Lol!

Another thing I want to point out - in my time I've seen a lot of people who've said that they've given up tank because whenever they prove themselves a good tank, guildmates and friends shoehorn them into tank roles even if they'd want to be something else. I've had this type of treatment myself sometimes. I like the actual job of tanking, but hate the mentality that people at times associate with it. Maybe this mentality also contributes to a tank deficiency?

It's sad that your game friends made you feel like this. But often times it's just a joke and a hidden motivation to fully encourage you to do the Class job. It's just you in the end on how you will adopt those kinds of treatment from people you so-called "friends". Or just maybe you need new sets of friends.

Ok, I have been thinking about this, and I am passionate about tanks.

This is true, but to be honest I feel this is only valid when you have really good healers. It depends on you definition of competent healer. I feel most of the time you would have to have very good healers to do without a tank. My main class is cleric, and I'm so-so in my skills. I have a grasp of the basics and timing, but I would be nowhere without my tank. This is a game where not all healers are great. It is tough to be a great healer. And when you are not, you are scrutinized. That is when your tank helps you out. So many times, I mentally thank my tank for bringing in what I can deal with.

I think tanks are the smartest players in the game. You have to judge how much your party can handle and how to lure them into your group, with not only how much is in front of them but also what is coming our party's way (if something is roaming in the horizon). They know how much your party can support and defeat. So, I truly feel bad (as being the healer) when my tank dies. Even if it is their mistake, I feel I'm not there for them (even if I die soon after them), because of my bad move or if I hit the wrong key. So, the world needs good tanks, and I hate to see a party without one (not to say that you suggest that the world doesn't need tanks, I'm only saying that I love my tanks :3 )

I'm happy that this thread was made. I will happily offer my gold for my tanks to repair their gear or help in their gear development. I never realised it cost so much and I truly appreciate their help in all my dungeons ._.
