It's not overkill! I use Maya, 3DSMAX, Unreal Dev Kit, Adobe AE, Sony Vegas Pro 11 etc a lot as a graphics and design enthusiast (I'm making my own gunz-like game in my spare time).

Lol idk what my parents computer is but its 20 inches and its touch screen. I barely play on it but it's fun to use the touch screen jajajaj

Haha I remember the days when I played on an old dell inspiron with 512mb of ram... I sat and waited for the game to load and it took near enough 9 minutes to get past 'loading etc...' and even then I could never tell if I would crash on server select or not! (Sounds like you're due for an upgrade my friend!)
