I have had 2 cases myself were they wanted to 'gift' me ap threw my account info.
And 2 more were they tried to get me to go to a phishing sight.

It can really be scary sometimes.
You want to help the dude ,but at the same time don't want to end up getting your identity stolen.

I hated saying no to one guy cause he said he can't buy ap in his country ,but I just did not want to expose myself to that kind of risk.

so even if your what people call 'a nice guy'--->still use your head.

Also I think a lot of these people fall for the 'it is to good to be true rule'

they get a lil greedy and end up getting burned.

Scamming

:P
No matter how much precautions you take , there will be risk in personal trading.Even with high ranked players.Best way is to ask item you are buying/trading first but if everyone acts like this , then there won't be any trading Razz xD Its all about trust , check the reputation of player and ask about him/her to your guildies/freinds you are trading with and then trade only (its what I do ). Usually scammers don't bother to show on forums but who knows Laughing xD

Also , Aeria isn't going to help you z_z even if you send ticket.
Lol at first place they will blame you and about banning the scammer , they won't do it until he/she scammed many people and got reported but still it will be like a ban for a week ?? Laughing
XD and scammer not gonna get banned if he/she is a massive ap buyer.

What I am saying is that you should be extremely careful when trading , best way is to get GS as middleman and trade with only trustworthy people.Keep patience , its better to lose some deals than getting scammed , I saw lots of people who got scammed cuz they were in rush and entrusted wrong people -_- What xeth said is true Rolling Eyes xD

I stopped trading period. After the Calinion incident I seen how it was handled and seen that there is no real protection from stealing. Communities loss. I also buy less ap because of this so aeria's loss too.
Aeria should rethink their policy in regards of returning stolen goods.
I gave calinion a cape and quit trading that day.

CalinIon? Well, now I know who to kick from my rooms.

= =; Look, when I traded my R5 cape, I asked a close friend of mine, trustworthy person, to help. Both me and the other person who traded agreed on him helping us. We both sent our capes to him, and he sent them to us accordingly. No problems, no scamming, all nice and good.

It's not really so difficult...Just find a middle-man that you can both trust. End of story = =

Exactly but it could be hard to find such middle-man , especially if you or person you are trading is low rank / new / without guild -.-"

Re: Give a definitive bye to scammed items !

And personal help from GSes ?

GS monitoring, as if it would be enough for full protection...

Even if a GS totally confirms a scam with all the possible proofs, even if Aeria may ban the scammed, Aeria does NOT give back any scammed item !
Well, account banned -> Scammer will remake another one and spend money
Not giving back scammed item -> Victim will spend money to compensate the lost item
Money money, Aeria !

[*] Ask a GS to monitor your trade:

-GS's are here to help. If you want our help in trading, be it even for us just to watch, all you have to do is ask. As stated before, most of us, if not all, will have absolutely no problem with doing so. Some people my feel reassured with having a GS present to watch a transaction between players, and some may feel threatened due to it. If a player refuses to allow a GS to watch the trade, you may need to re-think trading with them.

If not a GS, any type of middleman to watch the transaction who will bear witness if anything about the trade goes wrong.

GS here to help in personal trades ? Nope, I hadn't read that a long time ago.

Nope. People need to stop making such claims.

Quotation is in this thread : http://www.aeriagames.com/forums/en/viewtopic.php?p=12340009#12340009

Seriously, no matter the precautions Aeria's players take, but scammed items are not given back, so how can people really feel comfortable in trading/buying/selling, in particular with newbies ? I myself have my own precautions, but that is not as simple as that for everybody.

When you do a trade, it is your responsibility 100%. You are responsible for profile checking and verifying that person as honest for the trade. It is your decision and thus you are to hold all consequences that befall that decision. Yes, there is a policy against scammers, but GMs (or anyone, for that matter) have no requirement to reimburse you with your item back.

When trading, you are taking a risk. Try finding alternative solutions. If you are not satisfied with how the GMs settle scam cases, then send a ticket with your thoughts, or don't bother and be wary of what you trade, who you trade with, and how you trade it.

What Pretty said ^

Staright from the ToS:

"(e) You may not hold AGE responsible for any loss resulting from in- game trading activitities. You may not hold AGE responsible for any information that is passed between players. AGE does not guarantee the safe keeping of information that is passed between players and will not be held responsible for any resulting losses or consequences arising from the improper use of said information. You may not hold AGE responsible for any in-game feature or item loss. AGE does not guarantee the availability of any in-game items, any Services or any levels to players."

A term we all agreed upon when making our accounts and playing our games. Anything lost in game is of that players personal responsibility, and not of the GM's to replace it. Be nice if they did, yes, but ultimately...they don't have to.

As you said, you have your own precautions that you follow when trading. The entire purpose of this thread is for players who may be unfamiliar with the trading process to learn some basic precautions and of warnings BEFORE being scammed. If more people could gain the common sense of trading and how to avoid scammers, whether or not GM's replace said stolen items would be less of an issue, since they'd of already learned to better protect themselves, thus avoiding these kinds of situations.

There will always be scammers in the game, no doubt, but at the very least, more people could gain some sense from this thread regarding how to better protect themselves.
