Its not exacly finished but I decided to share it with you guys, hope you like it
It helps if you have hit level 165, as you will understand this better. And thank YOU aeria for this awesome game.
In a different dimension the dying race known as night shadows lived in a world where darkness was maleable, and they hoped to control it, weaponize it. They tested the effects of darkness itself on a woman, one who had no identity, forgotten in the eyes of the world, left to rot.
They called her test subject "Compra". The effects were catastrophic, and hundreds died, although they managed to contain and imprison the monster. Once again she was left to rot, forgotten and consumed by hate and darkness.
All those involved were killed and their families burned by the one who had started the project, he then committed suicide. But he had forgotten about the one who had started the experiments on Compra, assumed he was dead, a mistake his entire race would soon suffer for.
His name was Kauldur, like Compra he too was corrupted by darkness and sought to bring death and destruction to all.
But he was but a fragment of the power Compra possessed, and he freed her. The burst of hate clinged to all, a dark tide consuming the entire dimension and stabbing the fabric of time bringing darkness to other dimensions.
Those few who survived the disaster were sent to the wound that opened the gate towards Iris, known as Egeha.
The place worked as a way in but no way out. The realm of the nightshadows was obliterated. Kauldur and Compra were send to the realm of the dead. Moondshine as mortals called it. Kauldur started corrupting the dead, bringing forth the skeletons that roam free in the peaceful land. Compra began corrupting mortals, bringing them to that realm and forcing them to worship her and perform her hideous rituals that turned the fauna to horrific demons.
Truth is, Compra died long ago, what lives now is the true and terrible form of all the hatred and darkness that had consumed her. Should Moondshine fall, so shall all realms, for Moondshine serves as the bridge for all mortal races to face the afterlife.
The survivors of a once great race were now counted in but a few hundred and all touched by darkness. They had lost their souls but gained the ability to steal the souls of others and use them as raw power. The arrival of these shadows of the night is the sign that the time has come for one final Chaos.
Compra had established a strong foothold in Moondshine, and although Kauldur had helped her, they were still enemies. But Kauldur had little interest in the land of the dead, he was fascinated by the power he had obtained, Compra was killed and consumed by darkness but Kauldur was able to control it. He now had the power worthy of a god but his mortal emotions and nature were still there. He loved making the experiments that created undeath, and brought the dead back.
But reviving the already dead people was not very interesting for him, he wanted to experiment on the mortal people of Iris, but he couldn’t. There were only two portals to Iris in Moondshine, one was in Compra's dark altar and the other in Mondshine's citadel. The Citadel was protected by a barrier that prevented his dark nature from entering, and going head to head with Compra would be suicide.
He then realized he could channel his power himself, but he could only do it in small portions. He would need mortal followers in Iris to do it for him. He whispered to a man called Tero, promised him power and dominance if he would experiment undeath for him, Tero experimented on the crypt of Velpist, by bringing a single body back to life he doomed the entire temple. The undead spread like a virus.
Kauldur then rewarded his follower, but he betrayed him aswell giving him power but imprisoning him in the temple of forgetfulness, he could not risk betrayal of a mortal and Tero became the Blood Terrain, he had the power he wished for, but he was left to rot by the god of death Kauldur.
The god of death then sought to bring misery to the people of iris by granting the gift of undeath to Theo, a cruel tyrant who once ruled over all of Iris. His legion of warriors in the golden sphinx armor rose up once more and threatened to bring destruction to Iris once more, but then, nothing.
Compra could not risk the competition of another dark god, she needed the mortals of Iris to live so they would feed her power. So began a war between the two gods, a war that would last what is close to an eternity and a war that would keep both the dark gods too busy to meddle in the affairs of the mortal people of Iris.
Without Kauldur to awaken Theo, his tomb was filled with nothing but mindless undead patrolling the empty halls, waiting for a master who would lead them towards the destruction of Iris.
So began a lasting peace in Iris, but many knew it would not last forever. Whichever of the dark gods achieved victory, Iris would suffer at their hands.
With the undead and Compra's corruption spreading in Iris many decided to become adventurers, indeed the dark gods had but touched the surface of Iris, and even the mightiest of heroes sought to find and control the artifacts left by the same gods.
A treaty was signed by the races of Iris to send aid and support to Randol, in the province of Juno, the only connection the world had to Egeha, a strange realm covered by mountains.
They knew Egeha was somehow connected to the strange happenings and should Randol fall, Egeha would also be lost.
From the North, came the titans, a people hardened by the treacherous mountains of their homeland, they were the strongest warriors of all Iris.
Like from a strange mist appeared the mages, women who had devoted their lives to the learning of destructive magic, they never took an interest in the problems or wars of the world, but they knew that by aiding the people of Randol they would likely find much knowledge and power from the dark forces that threaten the realm.
Rogues from all across Iris came to aid in the war, trained in the art of stealth and agility, they were a deadly force, yet arrogant in their skill.
The elves cared little for the war, as always they were arrogant to believe the war would not touch them, however, some elven sorcerers and healers came by their own free will, possibly more to advance their own agenda, than to help the people of Iris.
Some of the Night Shadows, although confused about the new world they had been thrown into, decided to aid the people of Iris, although most of them wandered the land that was new to them, in search of what, they did not know, but the dark wanderers seemed fearless and arrogant, and simply kept going in search of a reason to live.
And last, came the knights of Poliphemus's ancient order, sworn to purge demons and any other kind of disgusting powers that prey on mortals. They never interfere with the wars of mortals, but are the first to attack and destroy any demon who threatens the free people.
A council with representatives of all the races was hosted to decide on what to do next, it was decided that Juno had to be cleared first, the corrupted crypt of Velpist was too great a threat, as it had began to spawn werewolves, and the drakes had been multiplying by hundreds. The mages felt insulted by the decision, they had come to destroy great foes and demons, and were tasked with dealing with petty skeletons and drakes.
The Night Shadows thanked the opportunity to learn more about the world that surrounded them and wanted to see the drakes which appeared to be such curious creatures. With all races combined Velpist was purged at an amazing speed and less than a week later they were ready to engage once more.
They then turned they’re attention to Dratan, they could not ignore the possibility of Theo's return, but Theo's Army was but one of Dratan's many problems.
The Orcs, disgusting creatures who reproduced at an alarming rate had made they’re stronghold in the abandoned temple of Procion, and if they’re numbers weren’t cut, they could overrun the hold.
The titans were tasked with clearing the orcs, but they soon realized the orcs would make excellent training for new recruits. After reducing the orcs numbers to acceptable levels, they invited initiates of all races to train their skills there, mercilessly slaughtering the orcs who spawned from the spores.
The mages were quick to detect Tero, the now proclaimed Blood Terrain in the forgotten temple, like the push of a button the holy knights immediately moved to the temple to purge the foul demon, the mages went with them to learn more about Kauldur's power, and its effects.
All the others were tasked with clearing out the tomb of Theo, but the clearing of some undead soon turned into a huge campaign of extermination.
Not only had Theo's armies of Sphinx warriors arisen anew, Kauldur had increased their power tenfold. It took months and many casualties just to clear out the sphinxes in the oasis, even with the aid of the native wafes, the battle was long and hardy.
Reaching the tomb delivered a devastating blow to the army's morale, they arrived only to find the undead inside the tomb to be far more powerful than what they had been fighting for so long.
When the mages and knights returned from the purging of the forgotten temple, the knights were disgusted to see that instead of bringing battle to the foul undead armies of Theo, they were instead holding an already dead gate, awaiting for nothing and giving time for the approaching doom.
The knights ordered the Night Shadows to prove they’re worth by purging the first hall of undead. The Shadowy people had, after all been sitting around wasting time, so why not send them to the thick of battle?
All races were astonished, perhaps even the Night Shadows themselves, to find that they held such power, in a flash they destroyed and consumed the souls of the undead who haunted the first halls. In a final push, all races combined devastated the undead, to find Theo's general, it was like a shadow with wings, a darkened angel living only for death and destruction. A Darkmind Terrain. So many fell by his hands, but in the end he too fell to the might of all races combined.
The mages and elven sorcerers then performed a sealing ritual on the tomb, ensuring that even if the army reawakens, they would never leave the tomb.
After the great victory, even the honorable knights could not hold back the natural will to celebrate the defeat of Theo's army.
With Dratan secured the army withdrawed back to Randol to reevaluate the situation.
In Merac, a strange and mysterious forest, there were disturbances of unknown origin. The mages of Merac assured Randol that they would take care of any problems that could occur.
But the mages too were very confused. They first expected the Death Knight of Iris was attempting to escape his prison in Margaadum once more, but it was different. And the situation was far more dire.
The war between Kauldur and Compra had ended. Compra proved mightiest and Kauldur was sent to Egeha along with his fellow Night Shadows. Kauldur was, regardless of his defeat a god and could have crushed the people of Iris, but it was too late for that. The Night Shadows had become too powerful, and if they joined forces and got their hands on Kauldur... Not even the god of death would withstand their wrath.
So he infiltrated the ranks of his brethren, he knew there was a hidden portal in Iris he could use to get back to Mondshine, and bring the fight back to Compra. And the mortals would discover the portal.
Compra sent out her followers to perform even more foul experiments on the fauna of Iris and began building an army that would overrun Randol and crush all mortals who would stand before her, consuming they’re souls and destroying Mondshine itself, ending life, death and time itself.
However the mortals were quick to find the portal she was using thanks to the incompetence of her followers and sealed it shut. In a rage Kauldur killed hundreds of the mortals, all in Iris felt and heard his frustration, to see that the mortals had shut the portal and isolated him from Mondshine. He then fled to the worst environment in all of Iris, a swampy land, abandoned by the mortals for how horrible it was, he had a full ecosystem to experiment with.
From Kauldur's wrath the mortals realized that they had done a fatal mistake. Compra was also isolated, but her followers continued to corrupt Iris, eventually destroying it.
All of the Night Shadows moved to the swampy land to hunt down Kauldur, the source of all they’re suffering and make him pay for what he had done. But as the shadows moved in the swamps, a strong light came from the ground revealing the portal to Mondshine. Mondshine itself was asking for the help of the mortals. The entire army immediately set up a hold and named it Strayanna, in honor of the general who had fallen during Kauldur's wrath.
Compra was not pleased. She knew the mortals would not stop until they opened the gate, and if the people of Iris reinforced the capital of Mondshine, her conquest would likely become impossible. She quickly ordered her followers to hide the keys to the portal and rise armies of mutated demons to defend them.
Orantes, her high priest, created a horrific demon who he named the Cryothe. It fed and drew power from mortal emotions, especially fear and terror. He then made it eat the key using the demon as a shield for it. He then abandoned Cryothe in the ebony mines, old mines once used to mass the black metal ebony, now at the hands of goblins who used the ebony to make them extremely powerful.
Orantes sought to deeply insult the god of death Kauldur, by creating a new form of undeath, one that affects the souls of the dead, instead of just they’re bodies. This way he created a spectral army, from the souls of the legion of Seliphoth, the dead and forgotten god of fear.
Finally he ordered all the other followers of Compra present on Iris to regroup on a cave in Egeha, and corrupt the soil there to bring mutants that would defend the final key.
But the mortals were still ignorant about the location of any of the keys. Kauldur, impatient and angered about the futility of the mortals, came to them head on. As he walked by the army of the mortals, who didn’t attack him because they knew his goal, he could feel the hatred of his people as they looked at him, they’re eyes glowed red and the ground shook at they’re feet. Iris itself bowed to the anger and wrath of the Night Shadows.
Kauldur revealed the locations of the keys, and gladly informed that he could betray and crush any who stood in his way soon as the gate would open.
The situation was dire however. Compra's followers had turned the very nature of Iris to their will and even with the power of the night shadows it would be very hard to recover the keys.
The mages were quick to spit on the honorable knight’s faces and mention the use of Polephemus's crown, the crown was used in the past to defeat the force Oranthe's now uses to protect one of the keys. That ancient victory however, costed the lives of Poliphemus and his most honorable knights. All knights have sworn to die before the use of the crown.
But the people of Iris had taken no such oath, and the knights had also sworn to protect the people of iris, no matter the cost.
The army could only be at one place however and Kauldur suggested that they send they’re main force to attack the cave in Egeha where Compra's flowerers established a foothold.
The Cryothe was the hardest enigma of this time. It drew power from emotions, and if too many warriors were sent to destroy it, it would draw unimaginable power from the fear it caused. So it was decided that a small party of the finest warriors of the army would engage the Cryothe.
The mages and knights arrived at the Misty Canyon, the exact same place where the crown was used before. The knights agreed to use the crown, but only if they began to fall and loose the battle. So began the long fight between the two armies. Like an ancient reenactment, the old enemies fighting each other in fierce combat to prove they’re worth. In the end, even the mages were astonished. Many knights fell in that great battle, but they had done what they’re ancestors had failed to do. They honorably fought and defeated they’re ancient enemy without the crown.
As the mages arrived to Orantes's chamber, he let out a sadistic laugh, and requested to test his magic against the arch-mage, the most wise and powerful of all the mages. The duel was quite spectacular, even the knights, who despised the use of magic were amazed at the two mages battling in a fierce duel. Orantes was defeated, mainly because he underestimated the arch-mage and payed the highest price for it.
The army was not having an easy time battling the corrupted cave however, the walking roots called Cobalts were like walls of steel, so resistant and so enduring. Not even magic could touch them. At the cost of hundreds, they finally started to push back the Cobalts and found themselves facing demons who wielded crossbows.
The commander of the army laughed to see that the worshipers of Compra had created numbers of creatures who wielded ranged weapons in a small, short cave. There were two ranking priests in the cave and Compra imploded the one who mutated the crossbow wielding demons as punishment for his incompetence. The key was recovered at the cost of many deaths.
Most of the great army assembled to fight the darkness had been destroyed by now, and although they were achieving victory, many of the warriors were demoralized and losing hope. They didn’t know what future awaited them beyond the portal to Mondshine, they worried that they wouldn’t be able to face Compra's fury head on.
The party sent out to kill Cryothe soon realized that finding the beast alone would be a great challenge, the mine was huge, and crawling with goblins, armed and supplied with ebony weapons. Regardless, they were the finest warriors Iris had to offer. The goblins were nothing but bumps in the way.
As they arrived at the last chamber they witnessed Cryothe, a horrific demon who had the form of fear itself, and an incarnation of what Compra was capable of. In a fierce but costly battle, all but one of them died. The Cryothe fed on their emotions, and he only weakened as each of the heroes began to fall. Thanks to her stealth abilities, a rogue, the only survivor, was able to defeat the monster and recover the key. "No songs shall be sung of this battle".
With all the keys combined, a light emerged from them, smashing the doors open, and giving way to the land of the dead.
They arrived to find Mondshine's capital, the place where the creatures of the afterlife managed the dead, barely holding on.
Kauldur flew off to kill Compra's followers and reunite his now abandoned skeletal army.
The situation was dire, the fauna and flora of Mondshine was very aggressive due to Compra's foul rites taking place, and they were attacking any who they saw.
The army was quick to realize they weren’t up against common deers, but animals powered by a sacred tree wich had been killed and broken by Compra, the energy of the tree sweeped into the fauna and the creatures became restless.
In a desperate and final attempt, the Night shadows, knights and elves were tasked with bringing battle to Compra's armies, everyone else had to deal with Kauldur's undead army.
Not Kauldur nor Compra could win this war, both the dark gods must die or not Iris or any other dimension will ever be safe.
As they approached the old chapel Compra had been using, they found Kauldur single handedly fighting Compra's followers in a camp nearby. The Night Shadows held back their hearts and will to tear off Kauldur's heart and shove it down his throat. If they engage Kauldur now it would give Compra time and they could not afford it.
The elves were surprised to see that the dark creatures were able to hold back the wish for revenge, all to save a world that was not even theirs. The Night shadows had done was Kauldur was unable to do. They were able to control the darkness that had touched them, in this way, becoming greater creatures.
The magical beings teared through the monstrosities of the Chapel killing both her followers and the demons. Even greater demons such as the Legendros and the ascended priest Meque were no match for the power of light and dark combined. Basula, who had now ascended into a Demon Prince, engaged in a fierce battle and killed off some of the elves and mages but no Night Shadow fell that day. They were able to hold back the wish to kill Kauldur, but not to stop it. Fueled by the rage and wrath the darkened people would stop at nothing to get their hands on Kauldur.
Compra was displeased. She killed all of her useless followers leaving only the legion of heretics she had assembled. These were no longer men, they were touched by Compra and had become demigods, their minds tainted and corrupted who sought only to die in service of their dark goddess.
In a final and epic battle the age of darkness would end, the men and women of Iris would all die before letting Compra corrupt any more. "You are the warriors of Iris! You will fight for her enemies deaths, not your own lives! For they shall sing songs eternally of this battle! And each of you, shall be an army in your own right! Today Compra will know, she doesn’t **** with Iris and live to brag about it! To battle!" Last words of commander Cassandra of Iris's legion.
While the battle raged in Compra's altar, the Night shadows flew off to the top of the mountain, where Compra and Kauldur were already fighting each other. Seeing Compra with their own eyes, even the night shadows fell on their knees, the form of darkness and hatred itself was... astonishing. They stood and watched as the two dark gods fought each other, not knowing what to do, demoralized.
How could they bring down gods?
Then they remembered watching their families burning and be consumed by Compra's dark hunger. They remembered that they’re entire race was destroyed by the two gods who now stood in front of them.
And so it begun, a massive free-for-all battle, both Kauldur and the night shadows were failing, Compra's power knew no limits. They knew they would all die there.
Out of nowhere came a strange figure, something not of dark nor light, carrying the crown of Polephemus. The unknown spiritual creature then just vanished dropping the crown. The crown's power was used by the knights to banish they’re ancient enemy at the cost of most of their lives and souls.
But night shadows had no souls. And they willingly gave their lives to the crown, which then absorbed Compra's power and soul devouring her and destroying itself.
Only four night shadows survived, and Compra's heretics fell with her, the battle was over, but Kauldur was still at large.
But the four survivors demanded the army to pull back and leave Kauldur to them.
Like dark angels, the five shadows engage in aerial combat, only one survived Kauldur's wrath but Kauldur too was weakened and fled to the now abandoned chapel.
There the last of the shadows defeated Kauldur, teared the heart from his chest and destroyed his very soul.
The purity of revenge.
The dark gods were dead, but Moondshine was ravaged by the war. The people of Moondshine demanded the mortals to leave immediately, as Moondshine is reserved for those who die with honor, but thanked for the aid in destroying the dark gods.
The age of darkness had ended, the war was over, and this way ended the Last Chaos.
