When breeding pets, do both pets get deleted when you fail a merging? Or are they deleted only upon successful merging?

You have a primary pet and secondary pet. If you use an insurance item..u loose netiher.
They are pretty cheap and the first time you breed for Gen 1 you only need to use one.
You can find them in player shops .
If you dont use the item and fail you will loose the secondary pet only.
