Enchant vs Bonus vs Upgrading
a small explanation for those new and old
Enchant vs Bonus vs Upgrading
- Upgrading
Items Involved: Smelting Stones, Heaven Stones, Lucky Smelting Stones, Chaos Smelting Stones, Extreme Stones, Purified Rune Ores, Devil Rune Ores, Master Stones, Prime Stones.
Upgrading provides a permanent way to increase your defense (armor) and attack (weapons). However, aside from Extreme Stones, Prime Stones and Master Stones, they come with the risk of breaking or ruining your item. Pairing a heaven stone with a Rune of Protection will protect your item from breaking, but at higher levels it runs the chance of returning to a lower upgrade. Aside from Master Stones, the highest upgrade you can achieve is +18.
- Bonus
Items Involved: Platinum Refining Stone +1, Platinum Refining Stone +2, Platinum Refining Stone +3.
Items that add a bonus increase defense and attack on top of any permanent upgrading previously done to the weapon. When adding a bonus, an item becomes untradable and adding other upgrades is not an option. Most bonuses wear off in 24 hours (real time). When adding a bonus, the bonus you can achieve is +19.
- Enchanting
Items Involved: Platinum Refining Stone +17 and Platinum Refining Stone +28
Enchanting items work very similar to bonus items, however they do not add onto any previous upgrades. A +5 item enchanted by a PRS +17 will temporarily act like a +17 item, not a +22 item. The descriptions of both bonus and enchanting items will inform of the difference. The current cap for enchanting is at +28.
