A Mystery at the Abandoned Fort
As Diamond stared at what had occurred, her mind managed to put together what she knew of these legendary blades. The blade she held was the original sword of King Arthur, also known as the sword in the stone. The blade itself was known to cut the strongest metals with ease. The diamond embedded in the hilt was enchanted by the sorcerer Merlin giving it domain over that of the elements. This enabled the Pentdragon to slice fire, wind, water, earth, and even shadow. The sword her opponent held was that of the Musamane. This legendary katana was named after its crafter. Being crafted as a katana made the sword more dangerous by design. A katana’s strong suit is its cutting ability and more aerodynamic making movement faster. This katana though was bathed in black, and she could only fathom what that meant.
Their blades collided neither cutting the other’s blade. Diamond stepped back and slashed at him again. He parried with his katana, sparks scattering as the swords met. Diamond weighted her options. She could make a run for it, but she would be unable to escape with Ray in tow. Her other option was to keep fighting and win. Unfortunately, Shadow had shown her that he was seemingly invincible with an ability to heal any wound.
“You don’t really have a choice here” His voice tore her out of her thoughts. “I can see you thinking ahead, trying to sort all the information you just obtained.” Her eyes widened. Could he read her mind? She charged at him only to collide with his sword and be thrown back. “Regardless, I am beginning to get behind schedule so there is no need to draw this out further.” He started to move toward her at first slowly, but his speed increased with every step. “Take a short na-”
Wind flowed through the fort, throwing Shadow back against a wall.
“Gave me a long enough chase didn’t you, Shadow?” said a man clothed in a green robe. He seemed to have fallen from the sky. Well apparently fallen wasn’t the right word, maybe glided down on air currents was more accurate.
“You,” Shadow managed out before hit with another wave of wind.
“How rude, my name is Delta, can you say that?” “Dellll-taaaa.” Delta laughed at Shadow’s supposed helplessness. “I have seen all your tricks already, you can’t beat me.” Shadow quickly raised his hand. Delta’s winds were dispelled, but not before Delta noticed and jumped to the ground nimbly. “Same tricks will get you nowhere,” yelled Delta, “no matter how many times you dispel my wind, I can summon more.”
“This isn’t over,“ Shadow panted looking first at Delta and then at Diamond. Shadow then stabbed his katana into the ground and shadows sprang up and engulfed him.
“Not so fast!” Delta yelled and he leapt up with a gust of wind and glided to the edge of the fortress.
“Wait!” Diamond called. Delta stopped at the edge of the fort and looked back.
“I don’t have time to explain anything, besides you should look after your partner.” Diamond glanced at Ray who was in the middle of waking up. When she looked back at Delta he was already gone the only hint of him being there was a small breeze through the fort.
“What happened?,” Ray asked as he got up drowsily, “I was entering the fort when-.” Ray eyes widened in realization. “Shadow!” Ray leapt up turning wildly looking for any trace of said man.
“He’s already gone,” Diamond said and explained the events that had transpired after Ray had fallen unconscious.
“Well if he’s gone let’s get out of here, this smoke is getting annoying,” Ray sighed. Diamond started to agree when she froze. Her eyes widened in shock. Shadow’s appearance had stopped her from thinking of the surroundings. Now that she had time to think there were some mysteries at this fort. Firstly, why had Shadow appeared here in this abandoned fort? And second, what had been destroyed to give off this smoke? Diamond, despite to the questioning from Ray, walked deeper into the smoke. There she found mountains of destroyed machines and metal fragments. For this amount of damage Shadow would have either taken his sweet time shredding this to bits or the machines had contained explosives. The answer was pretty obvious that the machines contained explosives. Shadow had never been known to take his sweet time anywhere. So what in the world had been left here at the fo-
“Wow” Ray exclaimed as he walked up behind Diamond “Shadow sure took his sweet time tearing these machines up.” Diamond moved her hands to her temples trying to sooth the oncoming headache, She had known tactics was Ray’s weak point, but would had never guessed that logical thinking was another weak suit for him.
“You’re wrong the machines here exploded,” Diamond stated. Now what would have be contained in this fort? Weaponry was on obvious choice, but was it small weaponry like firearms or larger weaponry? Did this fort also contain the machine to build said weapons, some many question flooded into Diamond’s head. Maybe Ray had an idea of what could have been here.
“Ray, what do you think was held he-“, Diamond started to question only to find Ray playing with fire, throwing the flame between his hands. Add children’s attention span to the list of Ray’s “wonderful” traits. Diamond sighed and simple kept tabs of all the information in her mind. Firstly, there was Shadow and his katana, then this Delta person, and finally the destroyed machines in the fort. Something was happening and Diamond was sure that people on both sides of the conflict, Shadow and the Major Cities, knew more that they were letting on.
“Let’s go Ray,” Diamond order and quickly left the fort, quickly followed by Ray.
