"We don't want you here, freak!" another child yelled at him. This was the third one this week, and at least the tenth in the month to say those exact words to him. He lifted his pack up to block his face from the pebbles the other kids were throwing at him as he rushed home. One of the other children, the self-proclaimed leader of the group, followed him almost right up to the door before he ran away. Sighing as he left, Lucanis dusted off his now tattered clothes before entering the door, before another weight practically threw him to the ground.
"Brother!" the small girl yelled as she barreled into him. She was tall for her age, five years old and already just a head shorter than ten-year-old Lucanis. Bandages wrapped around her head, leaving everything above her nose except for her right eye and her hair covered. He nudged her off of him a bit as he stood back up, and the toddler latched onto his side before he could take a single step inside. "Brother, will you teach me magic today? You promised!" she cried, only getting a small pat on the head in response. "Hmph. Liar." Lucanis grinned slightly as she put on a fake air of anger and stomped inside, him following shortly after.
Lucanis practically shot up as he awoke, startling the small sprite that was resting on his chest as it rolled down into his lap. "Whats wrong master?" it asked in it's impossibly adorable voice, "Dreams again?". He nodded, and picked the small creature up before hugging it gently, and resting the ball on the top of his head. "Oh well, time for adventure, anyways! Onward!" the creature shouted. Lucanis grinned as he dusted his robes off and picked up his staff.
"Master, I'm hungry. Can we have some breakfast?" it asked, not three minutes after they began walking. It bounced on his head in order to get it's messengers attention, nearly being thrown off when he shook his head in answer. The sprite frowned slightly, then jumped from his head and into a pouch at his side, barely large enough to hold it. Crumbs sprayed out of the top as it ate the biscuits inside. Lucanis sighed inaudibly to himself.
