I have an Altec Lansing ATP3 speakers running WindowsXP.
The game run fine, but when the music starts, it starts to stutter every few seconds.
I can play the game fine, with barley any frame rate issues.

Also 48k hz audio plays fine with my speakers.

I have the same problem, the game music stutters. C-Media AC97 Audio Device on Windows XP

I tried re-downloading and re-installing but the sound was still staticky despite the smooth frame rates I was getting, I switched between my Speakers, and my Headphones and it still had the same problem. I hit the full scan button several times too, but it didn't get me anywhere. :[
