I don't find defense all that useful. Things might change when my deck is finished, but for now, speed is the most important value I can have.

I think it makes a difference, I'm a colonel and I usually get a couple kills in pvp battles against higher ranks and rarely die unless I get stuck with a musou spammer.
I'm working on raising my attack now though.
