Professions

I see the framework, but not the rest?
I came to shaiya from reccomendation of a clan mate in Legacy: Legend of Dragons. (LoD from now on)
On LoD at lvl 3, you unlocked the different professions: Herbologist, geologist, fisher. These where the 'primary' professions, enabling anyone to gaher raw materials (plants, rocks, fish)
Then there were the secondary professions: ?,jeweller, sorcerer (I cant remeber the name of the second plant-based one) These turned the raw materials into usable ones. Flowers-->dried up plant. Rocks-->powder. Fish-->Ink

All of these secondary materials would then need to be used together to make items, depending on your secondary profession. The majority of the ingrediants you needed you could gain yourself, but you needed 1-2 items form other professions to make it,ensuring trade.. Plant one = potions. Jeweller = runes (liek lapis in shaiya) and the odd scroll. Sorcerer = scrolls (like noss)

Each player could have a single primary and single secondary profession: Most went for the 2 that were compatable (eg: geologist and jewller) to make the most of it,gathering their own ingrediants.

Now in Shaiya, I have seen items being dropped form mobs for professions: tools, raw materials. There are apprentice NPCs in-game who offer to teach you how to cook etc (when you talk to them: not quests) and there are even proffession merchants who are set up as an empty shop: you can sell to them, but cant buy anything,as their is nothing to buy. There is even a professions tab on the Basic Skills (hit B) menu.

Why arn't all of these tied together to give Shaiya professions? The framework is there, but not tied together. It would give lower lvl people a chance to mkae their own amrour/items and make some money. Higher level people could do the same, giving them somthing else to do when they hit 70 for example.

Surley it's not that hard? example time:
Blacksmith class. Item required: 5 silver powder, 5 iron ore, 2 hammers. Makes a noble chain-steel protector.
Jeweller class. Item required: 2 eternal spirits, 5 magic alchemy powders, 1 ghost core. Makes a lv3 craft lapis.

Now those are only examples, but I hope peopel cna see what I'm getting at. Im also betitng this has been asked before, but it looks like AGE had this in mind, then gave up at some point.

What does everyone else think? Finish what was once started, and introduce professions? Or scrap it completely, instead of leaivng it in limbo?

You can see when I originally joined Shaiya under my user-name. For as long as I have been playing. People have occasionally asked that question.

It's something that was just never implemented into the game. Just one of those things. That were intended to be added to the game. Then, it just got thrown on the back-burner.

I don't think the game would be anything like you described. Even if the system were added to the game. There is a crafting system of sorts in the game.

Each item requires a different item. To be used with Lapisa to enchant that item. There is no reason for the crafting of items. Since they just drop from killing monsters. Low level players can still farm for these items. Making some extra money from doing so.

Also, the crafting system wouldn't fetch a higher amount of gold. I've played a few games which had a crafting system similar to the one you mentioned. In both Everquest and Runescape. The value of these items were really low. Only once you raised these skills to high level. Could you actually start making a decent sum of gold from crafting.

We could/should get professions though.

Like maybe a blacksmith (non-NPC) could repair your items for cheaper (if they chose) or maybe they could link/enchant items better than you. (As opposed to spending several billion trying to lapis that level 7, maybe a blacksmith could do it for you. Something like that probably wouldn't happen but..)

I'd definitely like to be able to create or modify the appearance of my armors and weapons though.

Or someone could build a barrier around places with all that magic bark. That wood has got to be useful for something.

You have to look at things in context.

Shaiya is a game based on PvP. Professions do not have anything to do with PvP and therefore don't fit into the game. They fit more into a PvE orientated game like World of Warcraft.

You wouldn't expect to see horse mounts in Halo. You shouldn't expect to see professions in Shaiya.

there are PvP games where crafting is implemented. dragonita and guild wars i believe.

but these games are between PvP and PvE context i believe

Aika is another PvP based game that has crafting...

In Aika, you can craft a multitude of things including potions, gear, and the game's version of lapis. The gear you craft in Aika has a low % chance to be as good as the next level up (for example it would be like crafting Sephiroth to have stats that Anor gear would have). Shaiya would do good with a system where crafting normally gives you bad gear but has a chance to give better. Like, I don't know, it normally crafts gear with no orange stats but has a small chance to craft gear WITH orange stats. In addition, it could charge a fee to make the gear and if the gear sucked, it wasn't worth the price it cost for that or the items used to make it. It'd be another way of a gold sink. *shrug* And there's nothing wrong with crafting potions or low level lapis. Of course, in Aika, you could only buy the absolute lowest level of potions and "lapis". The rest you had to craft or buy with their version of AP. Just a little more insight on this whole crafting idea. I like the crafting idea. Razz

Wow is actually as much about PVP as PvE, Professions are needed of PVP because of the bonuses you get, the things you can make (all the armor manufacturers can make pvp gear)
Comparing horse mounts in Halo to having professions in an MMO is really weak.

I thought perhaps remedy farming. In a game i used to play called darkorbit, you could build material collectors on your skylab, and refine the materials into more valuable materials. These materials could boost defense, speed, or firepower, but more often they were sold to the space station. I think this would be an interesting concept if put in to shaiya. Have it done with remedies. Perhaps set up something like the repeatable remedy quests, but get level one remedies. From that point, you could sell the remedy, use it, or combine a few into a level 2 remedy, which could also be used, sold, or made into level 3 remedies.

You could also have a setup like Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles where after some time, an NPC gives you a bunch of goods from your farm or blacksmith. If your family had a blacksmith, you could get cheaper gear. In shaiya, farmers can give you herbs or potions or blacksmiths could give you bonuses in linking, enchanting, or repairing. Just some more to think about Very Happy

(PS fix magic resist!!!)
