Runes of Magic Account Database Compromised

This is a word of warning for anyone that plays Runes of Magic (yes, we do know that our customers do play competitors games as well), the account database for that game has been compromised:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/15/runes-of-magic-addresses-account-hacks/

If you use the same username/password combination on multiple sites (like here) please change your password on all of these sites. We would hate to see you lose your character/items ect because of this.

Aeria Games sympathizes with Frogster on this issue. Being upset with a company is not grounds to break the law. There is no justification to cause this type of grief to (in this case possible millions) others.

By now most of you have probably seen this thread from the EU forum in which it is explained that the EU servers have been threatened by a hacker:

There are a few points that need to be clarified for our North American players:

First of all, at this time, this is no threat to the US servers from this anonymous attacker. Frogster America has been in constant contact with the EU offices and have determined that the information that this person threatened to reveal contains no information on any US players.

One of the steps being taken to ensure all of our players' security is that the tech team is going through every line of code in our infrastructure just to make sure that there are no anomalies. This is a very taxing task but EU is not taking any chances.

I will post more information as the situation is dealt, but again, know that this issue is not affecting US servers.

Somewhat of a relief for those who play both and are in the US. I'd still change passwords if you use the same for both places though.
