Samuel Watson has always been of the curious nature, always finding the need to understand all that happens around him. He is just an average teenage boy attending MountainPass High School for his third year now. He never really expected too much out of life and so, consequently, he never received much. His short black hair naturally lay flat against his scalp but he would brush and comb it if he deemed it necessary. His eyes were hazel which gave them the appearance of clouded marbles, and his skin was a subtle wheat color. He stood about five feet and eleven inches tall weighing 165 pounds, pretty average for his age of seventeen. He considered his life boring and in need of some excitement, although what has been happening to him for the past several weeks was not at all what he had in mind.
Over the course of three weeks, Samuel had been finding himself losing several hours out of each day and waking up in the strangest places, such as an alley or a bus station. He had no idea what could be causing these things to occur but he intended to find out soon enough. So, he decided to implant a small video camera into his belt buckle, as you would imagine seeing in a police movie, and he planned to record his whole day until he woke up in whatever strange place it would be next. He didn't know what to expect to catch on this camera, if anything, but he hoped to discover something to explain what has been happening.
On his next day of school, September 17, 2010, everything seemed to be going by just fine. Nothing was out of the ordinary and he remembered all that had taken place through the day so far. Given these circumstances he figured he could go about his day normally and stop being paranoid. He was walking through the halls to his next class, biology with Mr. Carnell, and he met his friend Scott on the way.
"Hey buddy, you don't look so hot. Is everthing alright?" Scott asked Samuel.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just need to get a little more sleep, but you know how hard that is with finals right around the corner and all. I've been studying like crazy and none of the information seems to stick in my brain." Samuel sounded a bit annoyed with the fact.
"Well, maybe it's because you're so slow." Scott laughed.
"I'm slow? Ha, at least I'm passing."
"Aw that's a cheap shot man. Anyways, are you finally gunna ask Desiree out today or are you gunna wimp out as usual?"
"I'll do it, I'll do it..." Samuel surrendered to his friends mockery, "did you do the biology homework, ya know it's due today."
"**** I forgot all about it but you're gunna let me copy right because we're bestfriends and all?" Scott begged.
"Haha, I knew it, I'm not letting you copy this time Scott. I guess you're just gunna have to get a zero on it like everyone else that didn't do it."
"C'mon man, I'll hook you up with somethin' real nice if you do... you know you want to." Scott winked.
"Ok but what's it gunna be this time, Reese's perhaps?" Samuel inquired.
"You know it, man. I always got the best stuff." Samuel handed Scott the homework paper, "Thanks man you're a life saver." they reached Mr. Carnell's classroom just as the bell signaling the beginning of class rang. They walked to their tables in the back of the class which happened to be right behind Desiree, Samuel's dream girl. She had long, brown hair that she was currently wearing in a ponytail and her eyes were golden like drops of honey. Her skin had a subtle tan from the Arizona sun that never seemed to sleep and it had no blemishes. Her lips were plump and smooth as if they had been filled with some sort of jelly, she was like a goddess to Samuel and he had to have her. He leaned forward, as Mr. Carnell babbled on with his lesson plan, and gently tapped her on her shoulder. Here goes nothin' he thought to himself.
She slowly turned around, making sure to not draw the attention of the teacher, "What's up?" she asked casually.
Samuel's heart began to beat uncontrollably and the words he wanted so desperately to say wouldn't come out of his mouth. His mouth finally opened, "Will... will you be my girlfriend?" he asked sheepishly.
"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to ask. I was beginning to think I was gunna have to ask you, of course I will." she responded with a smile.
"Really!?" he was shocked at her response and even more shocked at her next action. She leaned over his table and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips, he passionately pressed his lips up against her's as he fought the urge to smile. Perfect he thought as she slowly pulled away and turned back around to face the teacher. He couldn't believe what just happened but he mostly couldn't believe that he was so worried about how it would go. He sat through the rest of the biology class with a big smile on his face until the bell rang for school to end.
"Dude, what was that!" Scott asked, amazed at what transpired.
"I...I...I have no idea but it was AWESOME!" Samuel was almost shouting.
"You're so lucky, why can't stuff like that happen to me?Well, I'll see you when you come by to get your Reese's." Scott said as they parted ways from the schoolyard. Samuel began his walk home down Maybury Ave. when it happened, his mind suddenly went blank and the world around him was drained of all color leaving everything grey and black. It was as if he drifted from reality into some kind of subdimension. The camera he implanted into his belt was still operating despite the fact that his mind seemed to be void of any thought at the moment. There was a figure of light down the street that appeared on the camera, it seemed to be a little girl slowly walking towards Samuel; he remained still. The girl was now two feet in front of Samuel as she stopped and simply stared at him. A flash went off in the far right extremities of the camera's view, although the source could not be seen. The girl looked as if she were lost but she didn't speak and neither did Samuel. Black cloth could be seen fluttering in front of the camera lens but exactly what it was could not be identified from the current angle. The girl came another foot closer to Samuel, still silent, and remained there with a frightened look on her face. Samuel made a quick movement that disrupted the visibility of the camera causing it to have to auto adjust. After the camera adjusted, the girl was gone and all that remained where she was standing was a scythe apparently being held by Samuel.
