IN CHARACTER
The guild hall is simple, made of fine wood, but otherwise very plain; you see a pair of tables, each with a pair of benches, and a small vault of some sort in back. Just above the vault, a piece of parchment is hung on the wall, upon which is written:

For those who shall follow, the scholars of Cheng Du gathered on this day to set forth a vow to preserve their knowledge amidst the chaos of war. For the betterment of our people, we solemnly swear to do what we can to prevent our children from repeating our mistakes, and to preserve what we can of our glories, and above all, when in the face of adversion, to stand stoically and honorably, be it in the field of battle, or the courts of nobility.

OUT OF CHARACTER
Chengdu Xuezhe- literally meaning "The Scholars of Cheng Du" in traditional Mandarin- is a guild dedicated to role playing, fleshing out our characters and the world around them. Battle is a secondary focus, although not neglected, for "The pen and the blade are one being, just as are the mind and the body." We don't have a minimum rank or skill requirement for members to join, but we do have a few rules pertaining your roleplaying:
- You must have a working knowledge of the English language. It doesn't have to be your first or primary language, but this is a guild for English speaking players, and you can't really role play if you can't communicate with us.
- You must keep your character consistent. This doesn't mean that they are static and unchanging- as your character should mature and grow just like a real person would, but they shouldn't have drastic changes to them from one day to the next.
- You should be active. Guild space in Dynasty Warriors Online is very limited, and we can't have inactive members taking up slots that active members could otherwise fill. As a rule of thumb, you should be on an average of at least an hour a day- not meaning you have to be on every day, but if you play 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday but dont' have any time to play on the weekdays, that's fine.
I also have suggestions for any players looking to join; these should not be thought of as requirements, but they will help to adapt your character to the setting.
- Be familiar with the historical and mythological background of the general your character serves, as well as your character's area of origin. You don't need to be an expert in ancient Chinese history, but you should at least know who you're working for, and have a reason for your character to be following them. And the bonuses that the general in question grants is not an adequate reason for your character (although it is a perfectly acceptable reason for the player). Also, please note that since this is a Dynasty Warriors game, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel should take precedence over actual history for deciding whether or not something happened to a given general.
- If you haven't made your character yet, try and pick a name that actually sounds Chinese. Ah, forget it... Who am I kidding? If you're worried about a guild, you've probably already made a character.
- Come up with a backstory for your character: Why do they fight, what did they do before the war? Were they at Hu Lao Pass when Dong Zhuo's army fell, or at Chi Bi when the three kingdoms were born? What were they like as a child, did they follow the path of their parents, and are said parents still alive? These sorts of things will make your character more believable.
- Try to use proper grammar and spelling. No one's perfect, and I'm not going to nitpick when you use a comma where a semicolon would be better, but it really kills immersion when people "tlk lik dis". Mind you, this doesn't apply to in character mannerisms and speech impediments. Go ahead and give them an accent, a lisp, or even just words they never say right no matter how many times they're corrected.
- To differentiate between in character and out of character speech, use some sort of signifier; beginning your OoC posts with "OoC:" or enclosing them inside of [brackets] or ((double parenthesis)) are all acceptable methods for doing this which don't interfere with the game's chat client.
