Well, trial and error. You can't be afraid to make mistakes or if you do to just start all over again from scratch.
If you want to know what program I use, I use a program called GIMP, its a free online image manipulator like photoshop which you can download.

Hi Snowy! I'd like to receive a signature too.
-Name : Goldin

-and add a cool golden&orange background behind that person.
-a nice border would be cool too ( your choice)

if its possible to add both with Ma Chao faded in the background to the right an a light blue-ish green hue as the color with my character alittle faded in to the left so that hes facing Ma Chao, maybe some flowers to symbolize the possibility of these 2 characters facing eachother one day, if you cant do both, then just do Ma Chao with whatever designs you want. A nice border would be cool too, you can do whatever you want to make it look better
