This is a basic guide on how to get fraps a program to allow you to record video of the game.and what to do with it.
there are other types of software to record game video but fraps is what Im familiar with so thats what my guide is about if someone else would like to add a guide to different software or make another post thats good the more tools people have the better.
If someone would like to add anything feel free this is a long post and I may forget something.even if its just to tell me I misspelled something
So lets get started
STEP 1: down load the free version of fraps(allows you to record 30 seconds of video)plenty of time to catch someon in the act

1a. Goto http://fraps.com/

1b. Click the download tab



1c. Click<Download FRAPS 2.9.1 Setup (952k)



1d. When the download box pops up click run



1f. It will download the execute program and another box pops up asking if you want to run the software click<run>

1g. The license agreement pop up click <agree>



1h. Another box comes up asking about the destination folder the default is c/fraps you can change it or leave it as default click <next> to continue



1i. another box comes up showing the default start menu folder click<install>



1j. A box comes up with text in it as it installs once its done it will say completed at the bottom of the text .Close that box and you have installed fraps you will now have an icon on your desktop





STEP2 Now that you have it installed lets set it up .There are detailed instructions on the fraps website. Once you have it open there is a red help tab in the bottom right corner to click anytime you need help you can use this feature to learn the more advanced settings for now we will just go thru the basics so you can record.

2a. There will be a fraps icon on your desktop double click it to open up fraps




2b. Click the <fps> tab you'll see overlay display hotkey and benchmarking hotkey with a blue dissable tab beside each click them both to dissable




2c. Next click the movies tab notice c:\fraps is the default.




I prefer to make a folder on desktop and change it to that so i can get to it quicker,
If you want to change it click the blue change tab it will bring up a box you simply find the folder you want to put the video in click it to highlight it and click ok.
Ok now set the video capture hotkey I use f12 just click in the box under video capture hotkey and hit the key you want to use make sure you pick a key that you dont use in the game.



STEP 3 Click the screenshots tab(its prety much the same as the video)
Iblacked out my destination folder it has my name on it.


3a. You'll see "folder to save screenshots in" with the blue change tab you can make a desktop folder or leave it at the default
3b. Set your hot key same way as the movie section again choose a key you dont use in the game I use f11
3c. Below the screen capture hotkey you can click a box to repeat screen capture every so many seconds untill you hit the hot key again just click the box and set the number of seconds in between shots

STEP 4 How to take screenshots and record video
4a.You start up fraps
4b.Enter the game in FULL SCREEN you will see yellow numbers in the corner of the screen as you play
4c.Hit the hotkey for screenshots to take a pic
4d.Hit the hot key for video to start video the numbers will turn red .Hit the hot key again to stop video if you didnt get what you were trying to kust hit the hotkey again and take another video
Your video and screen shots will be saved in the default folder previously mentioned

Those are the basics. All you need to capture video or take screenshots with fraps if you want to know the more about the advanced features just click the red help tab in the lower right corner p



Now what do you do with them once you have them
Ok for screenshots or you have to upload them to a site like http://www.tinypic.com/ or http://www.photbucket.com/ .
For video use http://www.youtube.com/, http://www.tinypic.com/ , http://google.com or http://www.photbucket.com/ . You may have to edit the video for size and quality so I added another guide in a post below.
You have to sign up for an account for youtube and photobucket
once uploaded you will get links to put in forums posts and emails .
5. Ok now you have video what should you do?
5a.First thing is ask for a GM or GS in the shoutbox let them know you have someone violating the rules also tell them the IGN of the violator (make sure you have the name Exactly right capital letters count thats where a screenshot come in handy for a refrence),server group ,sub server,coordinates, and what map you were in.
they maybe able to observe the problem and resolve it without uploading the video but youll have it for backup
5b.You can send an email thru the contact us at the bottom of any last chaos website page .

Include all the information just as step 5a.
5c.You can make a post in the forums include all the information just as step 5a.
So now your ready to catch a cheater,harasser,ect or even learn the advanced aspects of FRAPS to make game movies
I hope this guide helps.This is my first guide so be kind and let me know if you see anything that needs an edit.
[b]Ok alot of people are having trouble with blurry video after upload or files too big to upload so if you scroll down i have put in another guide to compress and upload and its all free to use

Holy smokes, this guide is so good, I might be able to run fraps Thanks a million Wolfy. You are absolutely correct in saying the more players with this capablilty, the better.

A suggestion to all players is to run this every time you
*do a trade
*see questionable lvling behavior in another player
*any time you see something against the fair play rules Fairplay rules
*for those fun moments in the game.

OK to start i have worked awhile to get a way to make sure after all that work you can read the names on the video and shrink the file size to be able to upload them to the free hosting sites.I can shrink a 915mb file to 58mb and still have the quality the GM's need.I asked Superman0X to look at a sample to be sure.Also you can include a screen shot to help verify the names as long as it can be matched with the video.The software i'm about to describe will do all that and its free to use.
having trouble getting those videos to look good once they are uploaded?
heres how to do it.I have checked with a GM to make sure the quality is ok and if a screenshot can be included to aloww further verification of the names.

click the download free trial


click download now



click run



click run again


click next



click the agree to the terms then next



another box pos up click next



another box click install



it installs another box pos up click next



another box click next



another box pos up click finish



it will finish and open the wondershare website and launch the program
everytime it opens a box will pop up to ask if you want to register just click order later


wondershare will open to the import tab to start now you click the folder with an arrow and find your video file



it will bring up your video and provide information about it in video properties

next click the edit tab this is where you can get pics from your video to add to your post for name verification
you can set the folder that it sends the pics to and set the image type jpeg or bitmap. As you watch the video click the camera in the
lower right corner of your video
of the video to take a pic make sure you get a clear shot of the name/names bitmap



next click the encoder tab change the settings like the following picture




next goto the template section pick what you prefer I dont use one but its your preferance



ok last click the encode tab under output format click the
1.circle with FLV.
2.Set the output folder
3.click encode in a few seconds your video will be saved in the folder you picked with a .flv extention and ready to upload

the software does leave "evaluation copy" watermark but thats ok and the sceenshots can help verify the name as long as you can see them on the video as well and you take the screenshots with this software so they match the video.
once you have the video and screen shots uploaded post the links or send the links thru the contact us and wait for the results
