it does, but only if you have a budget. It gives you one more PvE skill towards 2H, although you have to be patient until past lvl37 to gain all necessary skills.
Attack on weapon wise, before lvl60, 2H's are pretty competitive towards spears while spears have slow attack. That's why it is easier to go with 2H before lvl60. After lvl60, the attack gap between both weapon is fairly large enough + you could use flash ring and lapis to get a better result with spears then before lvl60.
If you can, i recommend to go with 2H first and once high lvl enough, use a reskill stone to go further as a spear fighter. Althamus has tried a spear fighter from in the early phase and he pretty said that it's pretty difficult towards 2H. Especially the lack of speed is a problem. There is a spear mastery lvl3 which you can use. Once you got it, you can be more competitive with spears.
