Some interesting notes on Human Healing skill Strategic Retreat; after alot of testing with it, I have found it is possible to use it to revive a tank given a few circumstances. Both of the below must be true in order for it to work.
- Players must not attack the boss. Any player attacking anything in your party will engage them in combat.
- Players must not let the boss attack them. Any player who is hit will put the whole party in combat.
So what can be done to revive the tank?
Any status skill which 100% immobilizes, stuns, or sleeps the boss can be used. Sleep is the easiest because its the longest status skill, an AoE, and most parties include an illus. So what to do?
If the situation arises that a tank dies. All players must know to stop hitting the boss and run to the "safe zone" which is far enough away from the boss that they do not auto attack. At this point, the illus quickly sleeps the boss (provided the boss does not have sleep immunity - which very few have). If the boss has sleep immunity, a KD, Ice immobolize, or Stun is typically sufficient provided the cleric acts quickly, but Sleep is the easiest and best way to do this.
The cleric must not retreat until the boss is unable to attack, and all DPS players must move back far enough so if the boss is not longer status'ed the boss has to run a short distance to hit anything (giving the cleric an extra second or two to revive). One slept/stunned/KD'd, the cleric can then retreat, and revive the tank.
I've used this method 2 or 3 times now, so it does work. It's nice for any healing class to be able to do a "callback" now to revive a tank, but I would only advise it for use on a tank. Also, all players NEED to know this plan before you start the boss, and players do need to pay attention to if the tank dies. I know alot of DPS out there just PewPew without looking at anything but their damage and HP, and will quickly wake the boss from sleep by attacking it. Save sleeping for this method if you can, instead of using it to cancel boss skills.
