I understand that there are alot of words on the banned word filter that are used in every day life but have a good reason to be there to stop numerous insults that people could be throwing at eachother. However there is one word on there that cannot be used to insult people and is a great alternative to swear words without being considered a swear word in any circle i have been in other than AGE forums.
Please remove the word DAM (with an N at the end) from the banned word filter.
All in favour, say I

If you can show that removing the filter is required in some way.... then I will consider the request. Otherwise, I really cant see how having it hinders communication.

Well the main way that i see it hindering conversation is that myself (and others) use this word alot instead of using an actual swear word. However when the word is filtered by **** then everyone assumes that you have used a harsh curse word. Other than Led, i have not heard of any community that considers dam(with an n) to be a harsh curse word.
When used like "daaaaaaam (with an n)" is meant to convey amazement, like dam (with an n) thats an awesome tier this month.
Saying something like 'I couldn't give a dam(with an n)' is a different thing. It comes from a tinker's dam(with an n) which is a British expression of contempt for something considered insignificant
Most importantly, what if we were quoting 'gone with the wind'. Clark Gabel's most famous line, maybe the most famous movie line of all time, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a dam (with an N)"
I agree that in certain contexts some people may find this word offensive. But the same goes for many words. In the right context i find the word 'women' to be very offensive and along those same lines the word 'kitchen'. As in *me express idea* *male says 'Women! /rolls eyes, get back in the kitchen'*. So you can see that even normal every day words CAN possibly be used to offend depending on context.
As with most insults, or insulting words, mostly its only considered insulting when directed at a person ("dam(with an n) you!") ("you women are all the same") But when directed at an object its not insulting at all (i cant get my dam(with an n) shoelaces tied!)
However i agree that i do not know all cultures. I am from Australia so can only go by what is considered ok here, along with what is considered ok in movies and tv shows (from america mostly).
