Here's another story about our visitors from overseas (please don't tell them I'm sharing their misadventures, they would never forgive me! heh, jk)
The day they arrived and we went to rent their car, they insisted that they have a GPS unit to help get around. The lady at the time told us to make sure the GPS unit (which is portable rather than built-in to the car) should be kept in a safe location whenever they leave the vehicle. I bet you know where this story is going...
So, one day they parked their car at their hotel and went inside. I'm going to guess that they left the GPS system out in the open. Well, when they came back to their car, they found that someone had broken the window and stolen the GPS system! They called the rental company up to let them know what happened. They were told to get a police report and then come in and exchange the car. So after getting the police report (which took a while since it wasn't an emergency), they went to exchange the car. I believe the insurance they were paying for on the car probably covered the window, which was good. However they were told that the GPS system was not covered, and they were going to be charged $600 for losing that! Now I don't know exactly what the value of that system was, but my guess is it couldn't have been more than $200-300 maximum. Our visitor was not happy about this, so he demanded to speak to the manager. Unfortunately he couldn't get them to come down on the price (what a rip), but he did talk them into giving them a car upgrade at no extra cost. So now our visitors are cruising around in a new pimp ride (and a new GPS system of course). I'm sure the cost of the upgrade isn't even close to what they paid to replace the GPS system, but at least they seem a little happier now that they have a bigger car.
Even if you don't have GPS, I recommend that everyone navigates their way over to the Twelve Sky website. The look has been redesigned, so let us know what you think!
